    Heli Recommendation

    Hello all...

I used to fly fixed wing rc planes 3 years ago and stopped due to my commitments. Anyway rotary is a different flying so i am back to basics.

Recently, i started flying coaxial indoors and i had been on the phoenix rc simulator for 2 months. I feel ready to fly a basic 4 channel heli but i feel i may have problems on the setup. i have read about some basic heli recommendations but there are no where to be found in a local hobby shops.

Could someone recommend me one to suit my needs?
    Below are my requirements:
    1) Relatively cheap interms of initial setup and repairs of course (do not require a high end brand).
    2) Outdoor flying (4 channels).
    3) 2/3 cell lipo setup.

    thanx everyone!

hi recently esky has release a 4 channel fp honey bee 2 ,it looks more durable than it's previous version and good for beginers as the parts won't cost alot as there will be very little adamage when crash , it is using 3s lipo it think it will be comming into lhs very soon and i think it will cost bt 180/= for a rtf set

But why not look at a cheap 6 channel heli??? I am afraid FP heli are getting lesser and lesser and you may have spare parts problem in the long run.

                Look at HK450.

lots of options here : http://shop.heliguru.sg/index.php/he...nd-combos.html

i'm a noob too, 2 months into the hobby and practicing on Phoenix. Bought my 450-class heli from here, heli performs great and best thing is very good advice and service! Parts are in abundance and reasonably cheap.

I ve to agree with Adrian, you ve placed a requirement for a 4chn heli for learning. My advice, is to move into 6 chn. 450 size and 500 size are available at reasonable prices both locally and from overseas. Gone were the days where i had to start on a honey bee T and spend 3/4 of the time wrestle the heli just to learn to hover. And by the time i learn to hover, the 4 in 1 burn..the moment i move to t-rex 450 XL, i did more stuff than what i had done at the MSCP with the honey bee.
                      My Hangar:

                      Heli 1:T-REX 450SE (Hughes MD 500)
                      (SE-maiden 15/03/06)
                      (XL-maiden 16/10/05)

                      Heli 2:RAPTOR 50 TITAN
                      (TITAN-maiden 16/06/2006)

                      Heli 3:T-REX 500ESP (T-rex maiden 25/9/10)
                      (FLASHER 500-maiden 08/10/2009 R.I.P:09/08/10)

                      Heli 4:Flasher 250
                      (maiden 13/09/2010)

Airplane 1:GWS A-4SU Skyhawk For Sale
Airplane 2:GWS P-40N WarHawk RAAF maiden flight 20/08/10 For Sale

                      Transmitter:
                      JR 9XII(XPS 2.4)

Its all fun & games till the bills come..

                        Yo artyboy when going nitro.
Yes I am still a noob. But ever since I got my 500 from heliguru and with his constant encouragement, I am still in this hobby.

Maybe u wanna try a Walkera cb100 or a cb180d. These 2 4 channel FP helis feature a new rotor system that is very stable (just like a coaxial). But much faster than coaxials.
                          Modded Esavage + 4S lipo + KB45 2300KV + HW150A
Brushless Esky Lama with dual swash
                          Esky Dauphin
                          Walkera Lama 2
                          Walkera 5G6
                          Sparrowhawk XB + 2S lipo + 60A brushless esc + 6000kv motor.
Brushless Mini LST + single servo mod
                          Brushless Micro-T

additional agreement with what's been suggested.

The walkera's are a good, effective and low cost way to go. Especially the new cb100. You can fly them indoors and all that too which is nice.

For outdoors the 450 clones as suggested are a really great idea. I've recently tried out an exi450 for 35usd or something ridiculous and have had great results. A bit rough around the edges but with a 13usd esky hh gyro it was great to bash around and felt just as nice as my old trex450. From pictures, it looks like the clones available back home are much better quality too.

Set up right 450's can be much more stable and easier to fly than a 4 channel motor tail type thing. And unlike something like a hb fp , you wont need to set the helicopter up every time the motors burn out and constantly adjust the tail as the flight goes on. Fond memories of my old feda.

When i got my clone I just threw in an old 300 size bl motor from a compy that was way too small and geared it with a very small pinion to run at a very high throttle setting. Result is a lightweight low headspeed , low power power set up that is very efficient, solid and very easy to hover and fly around with like 15 min + flight times. The real fun started once i got a cheap psycho fast motor but that's not what you're looking for. Not yet anyway?
