    Sjm 360

I've noticed that many guys have bought this heli so I decided to start this thread to share our set ups and problems.

    Here's mine
    Motor : Stock 3500KV
    ESC : Scorpion 55A
    Cyclics : HS-65HB
    Tail : 3500G
    Gyro : JR 770
    Battery : 2200mAh 3S1P Kong Power
Main Blades : Beam fibreglass blades
    Tail Blades : Dream Designs

    Here are some pictures

Notice the little mark at the bottom of the inside of the canopy, it's a drop of solder. When After I was done flying the second pack in a row, I realised that the battery pack and ESC was EXTREMELY hot. On closer inspection I found that the solder on my battery connector had melted and dripped inside the canopy! Luckily I had already landed when the wire disconnected...
    Anyone has experienced this before?

I also realised that this stock motor bogs very easily. Even when I do a normal punch up, the headspeed drops drastically.

Besides that, I think that this is an extremely stable yet agile heli. I cannot comment more because so far the motor is bogging too easily and I cant fly very well at all...

    calling johnny ( phantomGT )!!

haha @ your 3 min flight time

other than that ... a great heli , no negitive comments from looking at how it flies ... just that it intimidates nitro fliers i guess

What is your headspeed and what throttle and pitch curves are you running? So far none of us have this problem of solder melting, I will need to log your amp draw to see what is wrong. When are you joining us for flying again? I might be able to help you solve your problem..

I maidened my SJM 360 T1 today. The T1 is the latest version of the 360 supposedly designed for extreme 3D

I already have some comments and opinion on this heli but will reserve them for after i fly it abit more. Every heli got good and bad sides. I will do my best to present the truth from the perspective of an average flyer/beginner.

Hot enough to melt solder is definitely NOT safe. it means something is wrong in your electronics system. might even cause your lipo to catch fire.

check thoroughly again. if in doubt u stay at bukit panjang right? check with mazon and drop by zhenghua CC on fri night.

hope u can resolve this issue soon.

You can PM PhantomGT. He has the most knowledge on SJM helis. He himself has 5 of them.

I flew about 6 or 7 packs today, just normal hovering making sure the electronics are cold before starting up. Still hot but not as hot as compared to the other day. I am running a 13 tooth pinion, the only one they provided. The motor was bogging the same as the last time. I suspect its the batteries I am using. Nicholas gave them to me after he decided that there was not enough punch in it.

Flew a little too low today and had my blade touch the ground. Luckily only a small area was scratched off and the main gear slightly stripped. I simply moved the motor further in and it was meshing together fine again.

I thought this batch suppose to come with 12T as 13T is kind of too high a headspeed for the 3500kv motor, couple with a not so good battery, no wonder your ESC is hot. When are you and Nicholas coming over to fly again, I can pass you a 12T pinion, just give me a ring..

Now a bit hard to come down since school started already.
ESC hot but the initial punch ah... POWER!

13T is a bit too much, amp draw will be too high for older and weaker batteries. Best is to run with 12T or 11T, this will bring the amp draw down, motor and ESC will be cooler too.

Today I flew my SJM 360 T1 again. Am very happy with the flight characteristics. I made my first attempt at piro flip today. First time ever outside of simulator. Super duper proud of myself heheh.

For everyone's info, I am learning to do aerobatic flying. Last challenging thing I learnt to do on my Mini Titan was nose in flips. Before that was elevator and aileron tic tocs, flips, rolls, stall turns etc.

Maybe because of the bigger blades, I found that I could do what I never had the balls to try before. This heli feels very floaty. It doesn't drop so quickly. In fact even when i input aileron or elevator, it seems to stay up at the same position without my having to input collective. I only need to input collective when want it to do rainbowish kinda moves.

These are of course some of the positive sides of this heli. There are of course some negative ones that I will share with everyone. But please bear in mind every heli has pros and cons.
