How did your Heli fleet evolve?

    Hi Everyone
Just started in the hobby and wanted some opinions how your heli "fleets" evolved over time. Wanted to think about the how to grow with the hobby. Guessing some reasons are accommodate improving flying skills, avoid $ mistakes, mix of electric and fuel etc

    My thinking now
I've got a King 2 as basic trainer. Will later use as the wet weather indoor bird - basement carpark.

Also just bought a Trex 500 GF to learn building skills Thank you Finless. Later becomes the small / quiet heli for flying in the evenings after work - dry weather.

Third heli would be a 50 or 90 for the weekend funflys. Any thoughts on which size would be good? Like the idea of a tunable head that evolves with pilot skill.

I also noticed that Align and TT dominate the local heli scene (been following the "heated" discussions on Run Ryder). Any other makes with good local parts availability and reasonable prices.

    Cheers

I started when I visited my fren at his home to view his Arowana. He brought out his Hirobo Shuttle. The next day I visited SHS and spent S$600+ on FEDA Dragonfly FP electric heli.

      The rest is history.

Hirobo is also a popular brand here too. Just saw a JR Voyager E, 500 size heli, its a beauty!!!

Me... I always wanted to fly RC aircraft back when I still a young kid.

My first heli was GWS Mini-Dragonfly. I think I spend about $4xx for the complete set. Back then, the TX don't even have connector for me to connect for software simulator. Thus have to learn to fly the "hardcore" way

Next heli I got is MS Composite Hornet II.

After that Align TRex450v2 (yes, the 2nd generation of TRex450)

Then Thunder Tiger Raptor 50. The only crash I have for Raptor 50 is due to the tail pushrod came loose.
After a few gallons, I still prefer TRex450 and when back to TRex450.
After practicing for quite sometime in 3D stunts, realize my interest is not on 3D but into scale helicopter. From there onward, I only interested in scale. Not 3D maneuver/stunts.

Next heli I got is Thunder Tiger Mini-Titan. The reason I got MT is because of its AH-1W fuselage. I don't even bother to assemble its rotor head and straight away go 2 bladed flybarless (using TRex450 head) instead.

Next heli I got is HDX500SAS. To be honest to myself, kind of scare when flying bigger heli...thus when TRex250 is available, i got myself TRex250.

I am totally new to this RC thingy, don't even talk about heli. I have been going around talking and visiting the stores to find out more, and talking to a friend who plays plane and heli.

I am interested in scale heli flying only but I need to learn the basics first and I guess is to fly with the kit canopy before going to scale. I have narrowed the search to the TT Mini Titan to be my trainer heli for me to start this hobby (something I wanted to do since school days and I have only done cable control aeromodelling in the then Junior Flying Club).

Any comments or suggestion for a beginner to start with a TT MT and how to progress to scale flying from there.

            My "Fleet"

I am very new to the RC helicopter game, but am trying to free up the budget and time to get involved.

            Current "fleet":

            - Silverlit Picooz Pluto
            - Silverlit Picooz MX-1 Extreme (almost dead)

Hope to expand on these in 2009. But really need to find time to fly outdoors. Living in a 4 room HDB with a wife and two toddlers pretty much limit indoors flying to the silverlit products.

There's an alternative to flying indoors with a much more responsive and realistic heli.
Get a good simulator and can even enjoy with your kids when they are old enough.
Your kids may be the next Justic Chi !
I personally feel is that anything bigger than a pico Z may pose a danger when toodlers are around

Got a Mini Titan around March 08 after visiting some Sembawang flyers.. Thanks guys

Got a Lama V3 from RCE to learn orientation because I was initially afraid of my Mini Titan.

Thankfully things have changed, and now I'm very happy with this hobby and learning to do sport and basic 3d flying.

Next, I hope to be able to find a 200 size heli that can be set up to do slow and controllable 3d flying in small spaces with my current skill level.

How did your Heli fleet evolve?

Hi ,I came to know this hobby wayback inthe 80's saw the first hirobo shuttle in west coast n later bought a used hirobo in bishan but didnot fly for long due to workschedule n oversea posting..later also join yishun funfly to learn hovering with my used Trex but not for long, again stop for a period and ocassionaly learn together with my son who can fly better than me..starting with honeybee to hbk2 to mini-titan ..now wanted but not firm yet to buy trex 500 due the house master keep complaining too much rc at home ...briefly that's how it started

when i first started heli was 15 years ago
it was a kyosho nexus 30 nitro.
its a good heli with shaft tail drive.
but due to low income and the hardway of learning(per crash 150 to 200)
i sold it away and left the hobby.
10years later, I got myself a honeybee and mastered the hovering.
                      and followed by:
450X - given to a friend for his Blackhawk 500GP
                      hirobo30 - throw away and got myself a R30(a crash cost 300)
                      450SE - SOLD
Blackhawk 500GP - Sold at low cost
GL500 - Still Flying but seldom due to high cost in battery
                      lamaV3 - SOLD
R30 - upgraded to R50 and still flying
                      R90(3D) -Still Flying
R90(SE) - In progress to start flying

Currently, more into nitro to save time on chargering numerous batteries

                        My story..

it all started when i was flying kite (a real kite) at marina south when i was a kid. i saw a nitro plane flying there, i think it belongs to the rc car shop there. i was deeply attracted to remote control planes then, i started to search the web for rc stuffs. back then i was like 8 years old? my parents told me it was too expensive a hobby. so ya i stay away from it.

then when i was in primary school, i went down to rotor with my dad to see see look look. my dad dont have any intention of getting me into this hobby, after much persuation my dad was convinced but only after my PSLE.

After much waiting, PSLE finally over and i was on a holiday in a tour group. A uncle in the tour told me he is in this hobby, we started talking about my dream hobby. The fateful thing happened, he introduced me to...Champion hobby

I was a newbie then, and i was told that the shop sells things cheap. i went down immediately when i was back, and unknowningly i was slaughted right on the spot.

I bought a glider plane and he recommended me to buy some unneccessary things...spent unnecessary money. i cant even fly my plane then, very discouraging...money spent still cant fly.

Okay, enough of that. i then went to fook hai building, and i finally knew what i wanted was a heli. so i got the honey bee fixed pitch heli from SHS, very friendly service from the man* from then on i started hovering here and there. crashed countless times, i went around finding the helicopter parts, then there was once i went to hobbyshack to get parts.

That was the time i got to know my sifu - Ah tuck. Very experience flyer. I wont be able to solve my problems without him. He helped me improved the state of my honey bee heli, it was really in bad shape then. it was then i really get the hang of hovering.

soon after i got a vigor 90 in 2005 a mistake that i made. mastered my hovering on it. i sold it and i got a raptor50 in 2006. my raptor is now decommissioned in 2008 and im flying 600n now.

okay, i think i went OT liao
