Things you may wish to note.
          1.Go down to any funfly.
2.Chat with the seasoned flyers and observe what they are using, before you drop by LHS or anywhere to buy your stuff.
3.You're going to get lots of advice from many people just because some like it this way more than the other, take these advices with a pinch of salt and observe especially the majority's common comment.
4.Try to download the manual of kit you're going to buy, read through them and understand how the mechanical parts work, this will help you in figuring out what tools you need and how to do simple repairs or adjustments.

          Hope these helps.

Most 450 can fly decently well. It is the pilot that makes the real difference.
Get a kit priced at what you find comfortable, not just because it is considered best by some.
Get a kit that has spares readily available at LHS.

Try not to buy a 2nd hand if you know nuts about helis. Building it yourself gives you many vital knowledge you need.

List can go on on and on. But these are just my personnal opinions and suggestions, others may differ you may wish to take it with pinch of salt.

This is still an expensive hobby if you crash a lot. The prices of spares didn't come down a lot, so you've to be mentally prepared for this challenge.

To reduce crash, just practise a lot on the sim first. Maybe you want to fly using a sim first?

Not trying to put "walkera" down and I do not mean that. If you think Walkera is expensive wait till you go other brands it is not going to be cheap too.

Why things I like I cannot afford?
              Whiplashing soon?

Pai, nice to know we think alike.
                  I need to correct myself.
"It is the pilot that makes the real difference." may not be fully accurate, BUT the pilot does make a BIG difference in how a heli is rated.
Tell Lukas Riva to fly a Belt CP and he can make it the next "IN" thing in RC Heli world....
When choosing a heli, get one that is reputable and has good history by beginners.
I will not recommend BeltCP or HoneyBee King2 because though they do fly, it takes a certain degree of experience to mod it to a easy-to-fly state, which can totally throw off a beginner.Maybe thats why thats why many claim Walkera sux but there are many who finds Walkera rocks?
Personally I would recommend Trex450SEv2 or CopterXSEv2 or Mini Titan.
Through my experience TrexSEv2 or CopterXSEv2 usually commands lesser repair cost.Usual parts I change for my CopterX is MainShaft,Spindle(I always change even if it looks straight when I roll on flat surface),blades and sometimes main gear.
The less common items are ball links, tail brace... compared to my Mini Titan experience, this is chicken feet.
But then again, Mini Titan is more stable and easier to fly as it is less agile.
End of day, its up to personal preferences.

in fact for cheap repair parts, go for trex or its clone. now trex clone parts are much cheaper.

                    blades for $6,
                    boom for $2.90,
few main shaft for few buck.

walkera seems to come with crappy electronics

If you're on a budget you can get a king2 RTF. LHS seem to sell them rather expensive, but search around and u can get online for less than 200 incl. shipping

But king2 has a crappy motor which you'll replace eventually. So in the end you're better off with belt CP or a king 3...about 300 shipped if you search around

                          Hey hey,

No offense here, but I think every heli require some expertise to set up properly...

But it is true that the blades are almost impossible to track on the eskys... Other than that there is higher wear and tear coz of the plastics
