    Eflight Blade mCX Flight Report

    Hi,

I have had the Eflite Blade mCX for about a week now, and have been very impressed with it. It is very small (20 mm long, with the blades being about 18mm) and light (about 24 grams). I have had a Vortex, and have flown the CX2, and this is worlds better. It flew great right out of the box with no trim adjustment. Likewise the tail is rock-solid, although it twitches now and then. This is certainly no 3d heli like the Walkera posted earlier. It has steady but slow forward flight, and reverse flight is about twice as fast. What is fun about this micro heli is that is absolutely relaxing to fly. It goes where you want it to, with no muss or no fuss.

The battery charge lasts about 7 minutes. I was doing pirouettes right out of the box, something that I would never have attempted with other coaxials without a lot of tweaking. It is about 100 US if you want to bind it to your DSM TX. I have crashed this thing countless times, and there is not a mark on it--still on the original blades. The motors don't seem to get too hot. I have the glow in the dark blades ready to put on, but have not needed them. It is an absolutely amazing little heli to putter around the house or office. For those of you with real heli skills, you would probably find it a little boring, but if you just want something to fly for fun and are tired of the toy helicopters that aren't very controllable, this is just the ticket.

I got mind from Oz because the dealer I had hoped to buy from here isn't a distributor. For those of you who want to wait, I have been told that Jet Hobby will be handling them, but have not confirmed this with them. For those of you who want a little heli to putter around with without the mechanical issues that seem to plague other small helicopters, this one might be for you.

I wonder how this compares to the Lama 2:

        Lama 2

There was a favorable review over on rcgroups. It also seems to fly well right out of the box. The Lama 2 is twice as heavy, and I don't know whether this makes it more susceptible to damage upon crashing. The Lama has a 4 in 1 vs. the Blade's 5 in 1; again I don't know if this makes any difference. The Lama has metal parts vs. the plastic ones on the Blade, which is a nice touch. Size-wise they both look about the same. The Lama 2 is definitely less expensive, as the heli with TX is about the same price as the Blade without TX, so it is a better value than the Blade. The Lama's TX however is proprietary, where you can use many existing 2.4 transmitters to bind to the blade. I know that the Walkera motor were a bit dicey in the past, but I think the quality has improved. Also, the Lama flies longer, as it has a larger (and heavier) battery.

It seems both are good little flying machines, I think. It would be an advantage if the Lama 2 had faster forward flight than the Blade, but the video of it doesn't seem to show it moving any faster.

I think these are the major differences, but as I said, I have not flown the Lama 2.

I just flew one mcx today. The experience is fantastic. i never imagined something this size could fly wo well!
I was basically doing reverse flights!
The elevator forward was weak compared to backwards but I think can be overcome cause the mcx i flew seem tail heavy.
If not for the price I'll seriously consider getting one. But if i have spare budget I know what my next toy is

No Edmond. We buy together and fly together

I have had it for abt half year.
It was down for a few months until early this wk, due to broken flybar, and no LHS had the parts... until recently.
Mine is stronger in elevator fwd than backwards.
In fact, I have to apply aft cyclic to keep it stationary.
I think crashes causes parts to get out of whack...
Overall, it is much more damage resistant than LamaV4, which uses up blades quickly and easily gets bent main shafts... causing vibration.
