Di i need to off the headhold when setting tail?

    Two school of thoughts:

    1) off the head hold and set the tail straight. Punch up the heli and see if the tail holds? if yes, on back the head hold.

    2) set the two travel limits of the tail and just fly?

Anyone can advise and share their thoughts?

not sure if others feel the same way:

    1. I used to set in non HH mode then switch to HH when the tail holds well. But I find that the piro rates will be different on each direction.

    2. So now I just centre the tail slider and go straight to HH. Piro rates are more consistent, but servo gets warm due to having to consistently fight the torque.

Depends on what gyro you have.

Futaba don't need to set up in normal mode. Others may have to.

Also, I think if you off heading hold with tail set for no drift in hover and punch up, no matter what gyro you are using, the tail will let go unless you have revo mix on.

For Futaba.. I Center the servo horn, set the the tail for full travel. No binding.. Switch on, and Fly.

Setting up in non-HH mode provides a means of locating the centre of the rudder. Remember that with the servo horn centered, the tail should have a little pitch already in to counter the torque. So when you lift off in non-HH mode into a steady hover, the tail should more or less hold its position already. If it drifts, lengthen, shorten the tail rod to get the correct pitch. Don't bother with revo-mix.

After setting up, just change to HH mode and off you go! Left and right piro rate should roughly be the same!

thanks..however, this means you still need to off the HH and set the tail to hover with no drift..

I was thinking if setting the max travel and just on the head hold to fly..

            Wat is the difference?

By the way, what is the gain you guys are using for 401 and 9254 on a raptor? mine is 85% which i think was too high and whenever i crash I will sure have a died 9254..

this is my attitude: just go and fly!

after awhile, i realised that crashes were too many.

so my new attitude: just make sure the tail don't have binding, and go fly! i've never balanced a blade before, i just fly them. unbalanced blades still can hover, ff, fig 8, invert hover, roll, somersault. not sure about 3D though, not reach the stage yet...haha

unbalanced blades can make ur heli wobble n unstable, then ur gyro will also compensate for the vibration which will make u hard to control ur tail

actually high gain is gd.. means u have little slop/binding on ur tail setup..

i presume the tail holds at much lower values right?

                            Higher gain is good.
