Mini Titan Maidened - Setting & Headspeed

Hi guys, just maidened my stock MT with stock ESC and stock BL motor. Wow, fly great - can feel the difference from my TREX SE. Really seem more "well mannered" a.k.a. "stable/steady" although my TREX is also very well mannered already

Need to learn from other MT owners about ESC setting and headspeed. My ESC setting is:
    1) Batt Protection - Standard
    2) Motor Timing - Standard (Is it better on Auto? Please advise.)
    3) Brake - No Brake
    4) Throttle Sensitivity - Quick throttle response (Any comments?)
    5) Flying Mode - Helicopter WITH governor mode

My current headspeed is about 2200 rpm. Can you guys share what is your headspeed used?

    Many thanks

BTW, the TT Stock ESC manual have a typo for the Flying Mode. Seems like 5-2 should be "With Governor" (currently in the manual, 5-2 and 5-3 are stated as "without governor".)

Does your tail wags alot during Gov mode? I tried Gov mode on my stock ESC and the tail wags, switch back to normal mode and the wagging stops.

        Governor Mode

I use Governor Mode on all my heli (Lepton, TREX SE, Compy300 & now, the Mini-T). Initially I also used curves but had "converted" to Governor.

My experience is that I need to reduce my Gyro gain (my Lepton uses the Logictech 6100 and the others all uses the GY401) when in Governor Mode else there is a slight tail way (I understand that tail wag with Governor is quite common because the Governor constantly try to maintain or catch up to the desire speed when the load on the blades changes). I find that the reduced gain doesn't affect tail control too much but I am only doing simple flying - now learning to do invert on the SIM

Because of the reduced gyro gain, I generally reduce the Rudder EPA of ATV so that the piro rate is not too high.

ps - I notice that on Governor, its seem better to set higher headspeed and smaller pitch; especially from a wag-perspective.

          What is your Headspeed?

Hi johndyl, you are probably right that it is a bit low - that's why I started the post. I don't really know what the typical headspeed setting for Mini-T should be.

BTW, what headspeed do you set? Is it better to go up to 2500rpm? I was a bit concerned with battery consumption so I just maiden it at 2200! Only have time for one pack lah tonight because just finished assembly and electronics setup. Will try more packs tomorrow. Let me know what headspeed you use, if possible. Thanks.

yup for myself i set at abt 2500 to get rid of any tail wag(due to HS oscillation) in gov, and thats for normal mode...

for stunt modes up abt 2800 or more.. even abt 3k... but i limit my flight time to 5mins

Hi, yup i've experience tail wagging on GOV mode due to headspeed consistancy. I'm at 70% gain on my 401, so reducing the gain will limit the wagging but does the tail holds it position? I'm afraid that reducing the gain too much will lose the holding of the tail.

try pushing the hs up..... usually gov doesnt like to run in the lower HS.. or rather lower T% range

if u want to maintain that HS, and need to pump up that T%, downsize the pinion.. i believe that should help

Not really agree on u that. It depend on your ESC.

Take example, Castle Creations's PHX is a nice ESC but its governor still sux. It will oscillate not matter what RPM u run.

I tried Align ESC (older one and newer one) and I find the latest ESC by Align for governor is very good. No oscillation on even running at throttle of 35%
I only fly leisurely so I will not know how it perform in 3D.

sh, not meaning to doubt u................ but i am using both cc(tried v1.55 and 1.56 both ok) in gov and they work perfectly for me... and i believe some others in dh running higher HS will also agree as i have seen others posting b4 success as well

i run my cc with 13t with 3300 and 3400KV motors.. hs roughly 2500 for normal mode, and >2850 in idle up, gov gain in btween 20-24...no hs oscillations at all..

as some others have also posted b4, escs doesnt work efficiently at low t ranges.. that could explain why most escs gov dun run well in low t%...

it is not so much of the hs.. but rather the T%, if say i run my setup with 15t and still remain at 2500rpm(compared to now 13t) i would have to lower my t% and i believe oscillations will begin to appear..

on a second note, oscillations can also appear when the battery cannot supply enuff power to the motor/esc when it is trying to "correct" the hs

btw, keeping to thread on TT esc and motor...

one of my flying buddies also running gov on them, no oscillations but his HS is in the higher range, above 80% of max i believe

Don’t think so, it is designed for the Hornet which is a smaller heli compares to Mini-T.
