    Another motor smoking Qs...

    Hi all,

    I've read tru all the motor smoking thread but there's nothing abt if i still can use my bl? Here's the history;

Yesterday evening after rain (almost stop drizzlin), i decide to goto to my top mscp. One thing I notice before taking off is that I reset the esc timing from high to medium cos esc gets too hot. Then when throttlin up, the motor spins but jerking (the reason y i use high timing [med/low=jerk]). Then, white smoke emitted from the canopy and immediately i cut throttle. Near inspection shows burn smell+smoke+black residue from the bl motor magnets. Tried throttle up again it spins then stop. Disappointed I went back, recharge and set back the timing to high. But this time it spins as pernorm as i tried to test hover chest level in my living room for like a couple of mins. I mange to test fly after two batts. There's no binding any where, pinion(10t) to gears(140+) are 1 paper thickness away. Belt is spinning freely.

Is it safe to continue using the motor? I think the smell has gone away but the black residue still intact on the wire coils/magnets.

    Thank you~...

To me, anything that has gone up in smoke should be retired due to safety reasons.

Tankz broe, this is the 2nd day, no burn smell. Motor still like normal during punch up punch down. Will continue to monitor, or juz get a new bl. But it would be great to hear if someone eva experience this and motor life still prolongs...

tough to say for sure........... some of the insulation material may have melted due to ur motor reaching superheated conditions.... u can open it to chk...

if not... try to run it on the grd(ie pitch all set to 40% or -2 deg), run to full throttle and see if there is any cut.. but be careful. u can also remove the blades(rotor and tail) before testing.

however, even if it works.. the motor magnets may have been slightly damaged already due to it being overheated.. but then gain that being said it cant be confirmed till u take it for a test flight.........

haiz....................guess to risk or not it is up to u :P

aha~ tankz broe, takin ur advise again. during the punch up/down, wasn't +/-100%, only 75-85? cos me test at mscp don't dare 100%. will try that full throt wit -ve pitch on the ground to test these few days. Thanks again...

Broe the motor seems to be ok, but i notice now i must run in perm high timing. low/med will jerk start the motor, b4 ½ throttle it cuts

Broe, im gonna ask u a stupid Q ar, beat me up if it's really stupid

                    * when it's said esc cutoff due to thermal cut, does it slow down the motor or completely off the motor? cos i starting to notice my motor slowing not even 5mins low hover, or bcos my lipo dying? And instead of using external bec or rx batt(usually nitro), can we use 2 esc wit same 30amp 5v/2a, one for the motor, the other dedicated as an external bec to power the receiver/servo/gyro?

havent seen u b4 how to beat u......dun even know how u look like!.. better turn up on sats liao ok!??

the only way to know for sure is to use a battery/multi meter lor.. slow cut could be both depending on the esc i guess.. but i rather think it is likely the batt

use 2 esc??? one as BEC... wah quite a waste leh...but i suppose it could work if the second bec arms at all(because no motor connected to it).... just go get a external BEC la if u are worried abt heat or change the esc altogether to a cc35..

i have no probs running 3hs65 + 1 digital + 1 gyro on all my cc escs

on second tot, some on board BEC on esc still supply power to the rx even when not armed... so u can try..
