Hi Guys, Wat does it meant by Governor?

What does a governor do in the ESC? What is th pros & Cons on using ESC wif governor?

    #2
the governor help u maintain a constant headspeed, resulting in more consistent power through the discharge during flight..

in a sense, it gives u better control.

cons, gov is not really easy to set. some escs although they have gov modes, do not really work very well, usually resulting in a oscillation headspeed. A gov that doesnt work well also wastes precious power/battery life.

Actually, I don't know how the gov mode in an ESC work. The type of stand alone governors we use for Nitros have magnetic sensors to monitor the
      engine RPM.

I think is something that's related to tax collection, as well as prevent people from damaging the MRT train with chewing gum

          Sorry guys.. Can't resist..

I'm currently using Align REC-BL35X and BL35G for 2 of my TRexes.

              Both are running governor mode.

For BL35G, It is either my on has a bug or it is G series not that good. It sometime cannot start the motor during cold ESC. The 2nd problem is that after flying for like 7 minutes, the ESC cut. Now, I not sure yet whether the cut is due to battery flat or ESC too hot (inside scale heli) or the bug in the G series or maybe my one has problem.

For BL35X, it works very good. No cut and can easily start the motor.

I tried Castle Creations PHX's governor and I don't like it. In low RPM, the motor RPM oscillate...no matter how I change the settings. In high RPM, it is ok BUT it has another problem where if u punch up the collective stick, the RPM will drop a bit (well expected) BUT it then shoot up the RPM way above the intended settings and come down again.

For BL35X, it does not have oscillation problem and during punch up, the RPM maybe drop (depend on the motor and the battery) BUT the most importantly, it does not shoot up the RPM.

I tried 2 different motor and so far works very good.

Overall, I like the BL35X governor. So far I only fly as normal flying.. not 3D so I not sure what will it be in 3D state.

bro the 35G governor is known to have probs i think.. read somewhere b4..

as for the cc esc, updating to the latest version firmware will help alot and also playing ard with the gov gain

                  Hi johndyl

I tried practically all their firmware version (From the time they start Li-Poly auto detection till the latest 1.56beta) but they are always the same problem... not good in low RPM, oscillation and overshooting RPM

I appeared that their "Governor Low" than their "Governor High" works better BUT and the the oscillation problem is lesser but still there.

oh ok did u try playing ard with the gain settings? i had to set mine to abt 35 for a trex.. it could vary depending on the weight of the heli. if u have tried, may just have to wait for their next update liao :P

Have you tried the Hobby Wing ESC's gov mode ? (Yeah, I know they're cheapo ESCs ) ......althought I was apprehensive at first, but they work very well for me ! .....just a simple gov on/off switch - done by the programming card and you're set to go !

Yup. I tried various gain, start up, throttle response and all the same.

That time when I bought Hobbywing ESC from JHobby, they do not have stock for the governor version and therefore, never had the change to try.

shifu.. regardless of which governer.. still need linear throttle curve rite?
Guys.. I can't do 3D. So if you see me flying inverted, I'm in trouble...

If you have activated governer mode ...your throttle curve would look like this:

                            Normal
                            High stick = 80%
                            75% stick = 80%
                            Mid stick = 80%
                            25% stick = 80%
                            low stick = 0%

                            Idle 1 and 2
                            High stick = 90%
                            75% stick = 90%
                            Mid stick = 90%
                            25% stick = 90%
                            low stick = 90%

Try to get your desired HS by working out the pinion required to spin the head at the required HS (at full throttle) .....then keep your throttle curves (governed mode) between 80% - 100%

....Brushless ESC dun work very effeciently below 75% throttle !
