Setting Timing for Brushless Motor

Hi all,

I'm all confused when it comes to the above mentioned. Many unknown terms were asked to be programmed into controller prior to setting timing.

Eg No. of Poles for BL motor (Not sure if this is Armature pole or Magnetic Pole).

Then I was asked to set timing in degrees, from 0 to 20 degress.

I'm not sure how many poles correspond to how many degrees.

Is there a sure fire way to get this correct?

I'm using the 40A Hacker Masters Heli ESC but I believe some other ESC like the Jeti spin calls for the same setting.

The higher pole the motor, the higher the timing should be.

A rough guide will be:
2pole - 0-5 deg
4pole - 0-10 deg
6pole - 0-20 deg
8onwards - 20-30 deg
