i don't think you need the air filter CKS, Singapore's not a very dusty country compared to the Philippines. Here you can walk all day in your slippers and go home at the end of the day with your feet still pretty clean.

Try to do that in the Philippines and your feet will be pretty funky when you go home.

So in short, the guys back home have been flying without filters for so long, their engines seem to be ok with the dust.

Don't restrict your engine of air..let it breathe easily

Hi Shuantot, correct me if i'm wrong. when the blades starts to spin the engine will tends to suck in the air plus some fine sand and dust, esp when on a sunny and hot day. without any air filter protection wont the engine be kill easily?

Hi jimmy, not really, a lot of people have been flying like that without air filters, and had have no problems with it. And that's in the Philippines were it's very dusty compared to here in Singapore. Sure, a little dust might enter the carb, but unless you're taking off from a beach where it's all sand, then it wouldn't be a prob. Matter of fact, I don't know anyone personally using an airfilter on their heli engines, not even world champs

In case anyone doesn't know how an airfilter works, everytime you put your finger into your nose and digs out some crap, that's our body filter

Jokes aside, I have been using air filters on all my engines, even for helis.
Yup It will restrict the air intake a bit, but I am pretty confident on it's help to extend service life.

I'm not critcal on the poewr issues though.

                    haha
i may be adding another technology to my heli soon
been looking at CSM carbsmart to dynamically tune the needle setting in flight

The challenge will be mounting the additional servo .. will have to come up with something

                      air filter in heli???
extend the life of the engine or killing the engine?????

A good filter will not kill a heli engine.
                        why would it?

Air filter keeps dirt and FOD out from the engine, should add to it's life instead

                          Comment

the only reason that people don't use filter is because no matter how good a filter is, there will be some restriction to the air intake. Thus, less air means less combustion, which means probably a weaker engine. But if you are somebody who finds that the os hyper already so powerful that you need to tune down your throttle curve, then the filter suits you perfectly.

i always believe that less means more. i only put what i necessary for my helicopter so that there is lesser compenent failure rate. so i agree with genexis.
