why is flying heli the voted as the most fun RC??

seriously when i ask ppl they always say flying heli is most fun out of all the rest of the hobbies they have tried...

and that if a rc heli fly go play with other RC ... they will be sian of it very quickly and go back to heli

i started with only heli hence dont really know why

    why ar??

to have tasted heli first is to dabble in absolute complicated stuff.

Naturally non-gliding, parts are all trying to get away from each other, thats the hovering equilibrium. Its like drugs, it dangerous, but we like it

Its the vast challenge that exist even in something as basic as hovering. How do I keep the bleeding thing right in one spot in the air? No human can achieve this, very strictly speaking. The pursue for a truly perfect goal, that which cannot be reached technically, not by many at least.

Any other RC would just naturally have you go from A to B. Would you be thinking about "am i flying in line" when you try a plane? Not most of us, unless you are going for precision flying.

I remember my first real heli lift off. It was 2 secs, at my friend's place, using a FEDA. Esctasy. The bleeding thing actually lifted to 50 cm above ground. And thus I learnt not to fear being airborne. Very good feeling. Just from hovering. Those days.

And then look at the people out there attempting inverted hover 1cm above ground. It dangerous, but its tempting. Deep inside your mind you're thinking, "how bout one more cm", "what really happens if it hits the ground?", you actually have a part of you wanting to see it hit the ground. Spectacular irregardless of the fact that it may be pricey.

And being able to hover, you can choose to be very close to it and observe your model even as it is in function. You can only hope for a good low pass from a plane, in comparison.

All the little things. I think.

heli flying is fun, because its complicated, you can do a lot of stunt with it, you can fly it wild or relax, you can day dream when hovering....

BUT personally har, I think heli is not the most fun thing, plane is more shiok. I can hover a heli inverted at eye level and start to think about other things(i.e.day dream ), many brothers here can do so too. How many flyers can hover a plane at eye level and no need to concentrate? I really when I fly plane, sometimes bail out too near to ground or tree can even feel my heart beat. I really love that feeling of your heart pumping hard, as if just narrowly escaping death. Maybe also partly because I am still a beginner in plane, but my heli flying skill is not anymore advance. Planes, with the exclusion of fun fly and trainer, gives very good adrenalin rush. Must try to know, YMMV though

To me car is really the most boring and sian.

Bro, ....You haven't driven a 1/8 on road car down the straights at full bore and felt the adrenaline rush !

And as for you, obviously you haven't seen 3D RC planes flying and doing the prop hang with the tip of their rudders touching the ground ! ....even more challenging, a 4D model plane reverse hovering with the nose facing the ground !

In the end, I guess it's to each his own !

I have a 1/8 rally car, basically its a buggy with road wheels. Nothing compared to a true road car, but I think a .21 can be that slow right?

Last time I run it was almost 4years ago

A 1/8 buggy is miles away compared to a 1/8 On road (like a SUV compared to a Formula 1 car)

At full bore, all you need is to blink an eye or get a twitch on your fingers and you got total destruction. ....maybe it's like hovering a heli inverted a few mm from the ground .....or flying your plane and snap rolling it at a height of 3 to 5 feet from the ground. !

All are bound to get your adrenaline pumping ! .....you want 'BORING' ? .....try sex !

Oh cars is boring? Have u tried going around the circuits w/o bumping the side walls, or being chase or chasing the leader? Or trying to make the fastest lap? How about taking the corner fast and hoping that u don't hit a wall and breaking the front or rear arms?

Well, I'm speaking competetively, if you're talking about pure bashing, like just go forward and come back, then yes, I agree it's boring, anybody can do that.

              my 2 cents

Never try competitive before, but got play with friends on track and chase friend before. Was on 1/10 though. Didn't get much kick leh. Maybe 1/8 pure road car in competitive can give more. The only time I had a rush with nitro car was when the rx batt died on me when I was at full throttle, the split second between lost control, uncertainty and bang wall was very shiok.

                      Btw, where is BK har?

baby zyklon, BK's track is at Margaret Drive, just behind the Queenstown library, there's a road leading to a golfing range. They're called infinity racing? forgot liao.. muahahaha!

yeah glenn, it's true, to each his own.

i think r/c heli is much harder to learn to fly than to drive a car.
its somewhat exclusive in that you need to have much more skill to pilot a heli decently than to be able to drive a car or boat decently.
so in that sense, learning is not easy.
i can't stand setting up the heli, but flying is very fun.

RC heli is so fun nowaday. take a look at this. 25 yrs ago(1982) when only mechanical gyro or even no gyro.

wonder if any of the DH member were already flying RC heli at that time?
