DIY for NEWBIES only (Training Skid)

    NOTICE : For Newbies only

This thread is intended to help newbies build a DIY Heli Training skid which I hope someone will find it useful.

I have made the training skid convenient to use so that it can be easily slip into the heli skid like wearing a lazy man's shoe. Hence it is not necessary to cut off the wire tie after each use.

    All you need are :
    1) 4 ping pong balls (available at Popular book store)
    2) Carbon rod -3mm (cut into 2)
    3) Any tubes to secure the ends of the ping pong balls.
    4) 4 wire ties (only)
    5) An old plastic container used for those old days 35mm film (need to cut to size)

In order to use the training skid (Lazy man's style), you need to remove the blue rubber stopper of the Heli landing skid (Refering to Trex).

Also, to prevent the Heli skid pipe from moving along the heli landing skid, it is advisable to lock it with a small self tapping screw (see picture)

Attached below are the simple DIY Photo...more on next post.

Following pictures shows the lazy man's way of fixing the Training skid.

The 2 carbon rods must be set at 90 degrees so that during assembly, it will have a natural tension to hold the Training skids to the Heli landing skid (after you slot in the 4 wire ties).

The Training skid can be easily removed from the Landing skid by sliding the wire ties out after use. (No need to cut off after each use)

If you want to be more secure, you may replace the "blue rubber - landing skid nut" after fixing the Training skid.

    Comments are always welcomed..

    Hope this helps someone someday

DIY Training Skid (Can keep in Trex Aluminum Box)

Just to update, I have decided to make a simple modification to my DIY Training skids so that it can fit into my Trex Aluminum Box.

Just bought one of those small plastic container (usually used to contain facial cream) which cost $1/- for 2 pieces.

Please refer to the photo attached for detail.

Do note that you do not need to cut the wire tie after each use as the training skids can still be slipped onto the Heli's landing skid like before (post above)

Hope some newbies will find this DIY useful.

Comments for improvement are always welcomed.

                Thanks..

                  Length of the carbon rod

Can someone suggest a good guideline for the length of the carboon rod, better to be longer of shorter or just cut the carbon rod into 2?

The standard length of a carbon rod which you can get from Rotor is 1 meter. What most people do is to cut one 3mm carbon rod into 2 and it will do.

However, some others buy 2 carbon rod 4mm and cut to their favourate length. In any case, the length should not exceed 67cm if you want to be able to pack it into the Trex Alu case.

Personally, I prefer a shorter training skids. Longer skids tends to make the heli more sluggish on the cyclic.

                    Hope ThIs HeLPs
