[PDF] Tilt Rotor Comparison and Disk Loading

    Hi all

I found this PDF file that do comparison of Tilt Rotor (V-22 Osprey) to helicopter.

Somewhere at the middle to end, there is also very nice info about helicopter disc loading and quote:
"Helicopters with Large Rotors Need Much Less Power To do the Same Job",
"Big rotorsmove big masses at reduced velocity and lower power",
"Disk loading = Weight/Disk Area" and etc.

It also mention above thrust vectoring in hover (like Harrier) and also Fan (like F-35)

Here is the link to the PDF file:

If the above is true, then maybe having longer blades for our helicopter may have better performance instead.... Assuming our heli engine/motor/battery can provide and take it.

hmm, are you directing at me

i am not a pilot yet, but i always have the impression that larger heli uses a lower rotor speed.
can some big heli pilot cfm ?

some info i got from a book.

Hi Pilot Bear... I didn't targeted you. I was looking/searching for other thing and found the above file instead.

There are some arguement of whether using longer blades or shorter blades are better. If the above is true, then mayber longer blades actually better...or I read wrongly.

BTW... how is your Osprey. Oh... if u read the above file, I appears that the real osprey not only can tilt up/down, its head can actually move in X and Y axis also (for stability)

haha, joking only, good read. have not been touching it for some time. think i will do out the model first then con't with the elect stuff. last test wanted to use curve to get same rpm for the motor, but my tacho giving me problem.
