you can refer to http://www.daddyhobby.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43478 for dlg references from adnan.

generally like all other gliders, the bigger the better. standard size is 1.5m, now micro dlgs of betw 0.8-1.2m are getting more popular as they are easy to carry around and offer pretty good performance. Some popular servos D47, hs45, they are smaller in size than standard 9g ones.

The weight depends on the air you are flying in, in windy conditions you will need some ballast,

F3K (the FAI's class for DLG competition ) allows max wingspan of 1.5m. That's why all the "good" gliders Spanish 1.5m. The Singapore Nats use this standard.
Having scratch a bunch of DLG's I can assure you that the age old aviation conundrum of strength vs weight is no where more prevalent as it is in this discipline. These gliders have huge stresses placed on them during launch. Trying to build a light, floaty glider that can withstand these is an engineering challenge. That's why they've only been around for a while (the first contests were 2007). We needed the availability of composite materials and the specialized techniques to work with them to get the light strength necessary.
My home made gliders (both built up and foam cored wings) spanned 1.2 meters max. Any bigger is not practical. Vacuum bagged and mold built wings are the way to go but they aren't cheap.
That said I urge you to give it a go. There is no better feeling in model aviation like watching your plane no bigger than a pin prick, waaaaay up there, knowing that it got there with nothing more than a good toss, a bit of luck and some rising air.

          Time for some shameless advertising

Come down to RMS tomorrow morning by 1030hrs. There will be a DLG contest. This will be the best time to see what DLG is all about and after the contest there will be loads of time to talk to all the competitors and learn first hand from the pilots.

So all you guys who are interested in picking up DLG, do come down and join in the fun. Also, there may be a need for some extra hands to help out in the contest hehe But seriously, just come down and have a great time!

          Cheers,
          Adnan

Go straight for the 1.5m . Smaller ones no doubt cheaper but you can't really fly if the wind picks up.
