Hi all, I am recently itching to go slope soaring after having to miss out on the earlier trip planned by Dennis, I planning a trip to go slope soaring at Mount Bromo in Surabaya, Indonesia, anybody glider (RC) pilot keen to join the trip, please let me know. It will be a short weekend trip (3-4 days) leaving on 27h or 28th Sept 2007 depending on availability of Airline tickets. I am trying to find out more details.
According to some who have been there, the daytime temperature up on the mountain will be a 18 deg. C, night time temperature will drop to zero with some frosting in the early morning. I will arrange for 4 wheel drive jeep with driver to haul us and all the equipment up to the vintage flying point.
Stay will be at the resort facing Mount Bromo where we will probably be able to launch our gliders. Gliders fitted with a electric motor will be a better bet as it can range out and acts as a life belt if you lose lift. It will be a few thousand feet down ward trek to retrieve your gliders if the lift fails. Of course, you can fly pure slope gliders, not a problem.
