Tamiya Hornet

Does anyone have the "thing" for this buggy.

I kinda chased this model since secondary days. Never got hold of it because the Grasshopper version was $70. The Hornet was $150!!

Guess what, I bought the Grasshopper because was short of $80!

Now they re-release the Hornet.

Oh boy...my first real RC car...the Grasshopper II! Do the re-released ones come with the good old moving plate mechanical speed controller?

Art, if i recall correctly, Hotshot and Hotshot II came RTR...I think they called it QuickDrive (QD) right?

Nope, the highlight is the change in the mech speed controller to ESC.

BTW, the Hornet is out at the store in Sin Lim Square just as you enter the CP gantry, the shop on the right has two on the shelf.

Tears almost come off fr my eyes seeing this post.

I wanted the grasshopper very badly during that time. Unfortunately, my family is not well off and only my dad is working supporting family of 6

My neighbour on the other hand is rich and got the monster beetle, hotshot I/II etc... All I could do is drool .....

I still remember visiting a shop alone at Bedok south selling those Tamiya RC car ..... should be ard blk 57 .... All I could do is look at those cool boxes

Sigh.....

Keep them coming, really bring back memories...

HZM, your situation was almost similar to mine....I saved up every bit of my pocket money to try to get the grasshopper...it was not until grasshopper II was released until I can afford to buy!!!

Then one day, close to CNY, my dad came home with his year end bonus and gave me some money...I gong,gong go buy the car, then no money to buy TX until very much later.



Anyways, according to my fren who is a Taimya sponsored racer, he says this Hornet is really a limited edition model, so not much parts support...so dun go bashing with this car!

I used to drool over the Hornet too!
In the end I got a Boomerang... still have it but the front diff case cracked after sitting for all these years in the cupboard
