now i am into rc toys because i got 2 boys....just bought 2 vs tanks for 199 each yesterday at milemmum (donno how to spell)

I suggest u get a Reef Racer 1st, play ard and decide if r/c boat is wat u really want.

If yes, get a bigger faster boat n tis reef racer can be ur rescue boat.

If no, can sell it away as a set n wont hurt ur wallet too much also.

i may buy 2 boats, one for each kid.

so end up, i may not intend to spend so much, any idea about any cheap ones with working ruddle?

i think all the tai sing boats got no ruddle one

the tai sing man told me that if working ruddle, the boat needs a servo (i aint know what this is) and its is pretty exp

but i think tai sing price are on the high side

bec they got the construction toys for children selling at nearly $30 but i got them at kiddy palace at about $20

bec their sub-c 4600 pack of 6 going going $95 whereas the rcs people told me when their stock come, they prob sell at $60

U can look at boats with rudder at Jet Hobby, 1st floor at Fook Hai Building. However the boats there are not RTR. They are ARTR which means u will need to get ur own Tx and Rx.

But frankly, the SV27 is a better intro boat wif tons of upgrades and spares available.

The ones from JH are from China. Their hull design limits the speed of the boat. I am referring to electric boats only. They do sell nitro and gas boats too.

A servo for rudder control is only S$12-15 for a standard servo. Such servos are good enough for average use. If u are into racing, then get better ones. I boats use S$25 metal gear servos and they run in excess of 40-50mph.

Dont be smoked by the sales ppl there. There are very few ppl here with really good FE boat knowledge so u can smoke him instead.


There is one boat in Tai Seng with mechanical servo, it is the F1 powerboat. But its kinda heavy and powered by a 380 size motor. Very tempted to buy during their Christmas sale last yr. 30% off the listed price.


Tai Seng always have 10-30% off during holiday season. Christmas is nearing, if u can wait, u can get good deals there.

Yup, power to weight ratio. It can move but definately will not be at the sort of speed u see in F1 Powerboats.

my 2 cents..

you may want to look at this Dickie Tugboat RTR. it is inexpensive, reasonably fast and it sprays water which should excite your kids. My 8 year old boy loves it.

Upgrade: It uses a AM radio and a 6 cell battery. Run time is about 8 - 10 minutes. You can upgrade the radio to FM (less interference) and put a 6V gel cell in the boat which will allow you to run many hrs non stop till you get bored. There is also a web site on how to mod this boat as well.

This boat is currently available at Tai Sing, not sure the price though. Mustafa was selling this boat less than a hundred bucks a couple of years ago.

Dear Adrian,

i bought the reef racer 2 at 120 from NTC

tried in the republic poly

wow super fast man!

my kids

but kena chased away by security people

the motor also came loose, end up water i think went in from the propeller shaft

i put 3m double side tape and tightened the motor in place and greased the shaft and the ruddle

than i tried again at lower pierce

nbz, black wire came loose. boat got stranded. i got to take off my pants to get it back....sianz

tightened the black wire and tried again

red wire came loose...nbzzzz

went into the water again to retreive

a little water went into the boat, much better than the first republic poly try

lucky i didnt go too far away wait, $120 no more

i think i consider buying the dicky tug boat to act as a rescue boat but could not find it in mustafa, tai sing and giant

got any other tibs to prevent water going in?
