Dear Mr Adrian Lee
Thank you for your email of 26 Feb 07.
2 PUB has just started to open up the waterways & reservoirs for
recreational activities. Therefore, we would need to take a more cautious
approach when allowing activities in the reservoirs as we are particularly
concerned about the safety of the users in the reservoirs where there are
tidal gates, pumping stations, spillways and motorised vessels etc. As
such, proper planning and assessment of the impact of the activities on the
reservoirs and its surrounding areas, and also user safety would have to be
carried out before allowing the activities in the reservoirs.
3 We are currently working with our watershed manager to designate an
area for radio control motor boating at Lower Seletar Reservoir. One
possible site which we are exploring is next to the MRT track at Lentor
Avenue as shown in the attached plan . This area, which would be developed
as an extension to the existing park is chosen because of its accessibility
to public transport near Lentor Avenue, car park facility at the nearby
sports stadium / housing estate, and toilet facility at the existing park.
It also fits well into the theme of the park -- A Family Bay. The
upgrading of the park is expected to be completed by 2008/2009. We are
also looking into the feasibility of allowing such activity at Lower
Seletar Reservoir next to Seletar Club Road. As an interim arrangement,
we would allow the radio control motor boating activity be carried out at
the reservoir next to the MRT track.
(See attached file: Proposed Radio Control Motor Boating Site at Lower
Seletar Res.ppt)
4 Alternatively, you may wish to consider carrying out the radio
control motor boating activity at the Punggol Pond. PUB is also exploring
to allow radio control motor boating activity at Sg Mandai Kechil Pond at
Woodlands Central Road, Pandan Reservoir and Bedok Reservoir.
5 We seek your understanding on PUB's approach in opening up our
reservoirs and waterways for water activities as safety of all users of the
reservoirs and waterways and impacts on the reservoirs and environment are
our top priority concerns. If you need further clarifications, please feel
free to contact me at Telephone Nos 67313536.
Regards.
