    Heys Heliguy!
Glad to know you are interested! You can even use heavy wood for the hull...it floats real well...I actually had to weigh down my model with marbles as ballast Its pretty simple, even simpler than aircraft I think. Just need a motor, ESC and drive shaft, rudder and servos, some bilge (flood) compartments, a nice-looking scratchbuilt model / kit, Tx and Rx, and you're ready to go!

There are free plan to download and build the ships, if you want(including me). I have problem getting ESC. Anyone knows where to get one? Not those used for speedboat... but more to cater for 6V motor for scale speed. I got a Tug Kit from... Lyon. problem is... no ESC for the 6V motor. You guys know where to get ESC?
If the building stops, the buying starts!

Have check out GWS ESC but it dun have a reverse function(may b I'm wrong). Tug boat need to be versatile to be able to do rescue and tugging... he he, that it should have forward and reverse capability... As for prop and shaft can get from NTC(got my self one). Then again need to Mod the connection between the motor and the shaft... any idea?

Try Singahobby...but the last time I went there got no reverse ESC. The best reverse ESC there would be 80 Amps at least...I got a 20Amp ESC, no reverse from there...

Hi Toiletfreak, yeah I got the whole set from there, the prop and shaft. But to connect the motor to the shaft... I'm still looking around..... As for the ESC 80amp may be a bit killer for a 6v can brushed motor. . I got one from Rotor that says for "Car and Boat" cost ard $60++ (15Amp or 25amp). I need to check the cut off power from the ESC. I intend to use Nicad batt for the power source.

hmm I wired 8 NiMH AA batt for my 2 motors...as for universal connectors, I used a Lego one... the other side used spring, but found that springs jam up the connection. Will be testing out the durability of the Lego one tonight, but seems good =) Maybe will get your type of ESC in the future...thanks!

Its seriously easy to do... The hard part would probably be the detailing of the plastic model..I try to give mine a reasonable realism comparable to a static model, without going crazy with photo-etch...

Bi direction control is always an issue.....

single direction esc is so much cheaper....

So this is what I did to get a cheap bi direction function .....

nor esc (gws) + a mechanical limit switch....

Pic of my toy tank with such arrangement ......work fine for me

for me any running model will only with min detail...... as I know all the movement and transportation will damage all the hard work ..... so why wast time.....

                          Display model are for..........display only

as the "join" is all of rubber tube ...... well just for a toy boat function it is ok but long term rc operation is ......totally unacceptable......

cant find super small ball join for 2mm shaft......so stuck with rubber tube

I use Lego Connector, seal the ends with plastic glue...works fine for me BTW yesterday while playing, boat got stranded on the side of pool. One faggot child went to lift it out of water, the bottom submerged in pool, his granny didn't even care...anyways thank goodness only front mast was broken, can replace with metal one... Hmm scale models transport-wise have to be extremely careful. BTW I believe this forum is particularly good in showing the DIY of scratchbuilding a scale RC ship, might want to have a look... http://www.shipmodels.info/mwphpBB2/viewforum.php?f=13
