Sorry to give the EP guys the wrong impression that we are only doing events for gas/nitro... that is not the intention at all. As Palladine said, we would also like to host EP events as many gas/nitro boaters are also into EPs themselves. I would suggest after the 29 April event, we hold an EP event a fornight after... how does that sound?
I am OK with it...open race or limit to certain class as my boats are all mono hulls, any rules and regualtion. Do let us know in advance so that we (I) can get the right boat set up.

As for the date, too soon to tell. It all depend on my job but so far so good.

Yeah, things have changed a little since you were last at PP. I heard even the die-hard EP guys have bought themselves a GAS boat. You remember Mike... the very nice fellow who is always ready to help people retrived stranded boats? I thought he was a hard-core Hacker BL & lipo guy... but heard he recently got himself a gasoline engined hydro

So, when are you going gas (c'mon, I know you want one )?
If in doubt - add more horsepower!

Hi Phan... the answer to your question is not a straight forward one

Engine wise, I have only experienced the JZ260M which comes with the "Arrowshark" boats, or can be purchased as a standalone engine. I've not had any problems with mine. Jon_sg is fitting one to his new boat so time will tell whether the quality with the JZ is consistent. On the plus side, there are many spare Zenoah 260PUM parts available on the internet so sourcing replacement parts for the JZ (from gaskets to bearings and con rods) will not be a problem.

As for the boats made by "Dragon" that use the "weedwhacker" engine (i.e. the one with the spark plug mounted at an angle to the cylinder head), Palladine would be able to tell you about his experience with that motor. If it's the engine used in countless number of hedge trimmers, you can also expect a high degree of reliability and easy starting.

All of the China boats will benefit from additional reinforcement and fuel-proofing around the engine stringers when you first bring it home. Drive shafts, flex couplings and exhaust systems will also benefit from upgrades, but you can use them until they give way. Overall, you will get a lot of boat for the money and parts can be upgraded as they wear out or fail. They are a good way to start out in gas for this reason... and the parts rebuilding/replacement process will help you to learn much about these types of boats.

One element that appears quite consistent is the fairly high quality of the fiberglass work in the MIC boats. Although they are not gel coated, a bit of surface preparation and a respray with 2-pak in a custom colour at a car workshop will make your boat look like a million bucks

Thanx Dor.... I saw the website of a LHS and realised that the gas boats are not that expensive anymore (guessed they r from China). So was wondering if they are reliable. So looks like they are ok but some work required to make it more lasting.
