    Sky surfer noob

Hi bros.. I went flying yesterday at jurong west field... I handlaunch the glider against the wind and it flew..elevator up and the plane gains some altitude but in an instant starts to tilt to its right hence, it went down on a nose dive.. End up with a broken elevator tail... Where have i gone wrong?... I need some advice from experienced flyers as i might think of getting a 2nd sky surfer... Please advice......

    Thank you..

Bro , you can just use some CA glue to stick the broken parts back . You don't have to get another sky surfer to fly .

ok i have epoxy the broken tail elevator... how do you guys really get the glider in the air and fly it smoothly? My first few flights were ok... it flies really well when im using a 7.4v 1500mah bat... Only after I have upgraded the prop and used a 2500mah batt on my glider it starts to behave weirdly while launching? Or is it got somthing to do with the way i fly it? Any help on this bros?

make sure you loctite all your control surfaces screws. I had mine drop out once and I lost elevator control.

ok.. i have.. 2500mah - 30A esc hobbywing - motor.. im using futaba 6exap 72mhz tx and rx.. 4 servos. rudder, elevator.. ailerons has 2 servos are connected to extensions and Y connector to rx... the elevator tail has been broken once and this time it has broken again... is my setup ok?

I'm surprised you mentioned in your earlier post that you managed to fly it with a 2S (?) 1500mAh lipo, and you are now trying a 3S 2500mAh lipo... the size and weight difference is significant. Could be CG problems.

Not familiar with the Skysurfer, but usually these models with pusher props mounted high will have a strong pitch down (nose down) effect when you max the throttle. The airframe is able to glide without power, so why don't you try launching it with less throttle - say, 1/2 to 2/3 of full?

As for the "tilting" that you saw after launch, were you not able to react in time? Or your corrective action has no effect? Again, pusher prop models have quite low aileron effectiveness at low flying speeds (e.g. during takeoff) because there is no propwash over these surfaces. So at low speeds, you really need to use the rudder to correct any tilt or roll tendency. Or program your TX, use the mixing function, to couple the aileron with the rudder.

hey foxkilo.. thnx for the advice.. I'll re-adjust the mixing for ailerons with rudder and hopefully... really2 hope (cross fingers) that it will fly beautifully.. cant afford to break any parts anymore... i'm finding some kakis to fly together this weekend... maybe i'll be flying at old queenstown prison..

my experience with sky surfer is its very forgiving on the cg position.

                  i have used 1600mah 3S to 2200 3S without any major difference.
                  just minor trim tweaks.

the only time i had problem with weird launches resulting in crash
was that my control linkages were loose! so its not getting all
                  the travel needed.

also, these few months will be very windy. gusts can quickly
push skysurfer ard drastically cos its light.

as per abv posts, keep ur surfer, glue it back.
its bound to get more bangs. its a very useful plane.
once u are a bit more confident and intermediate flyer, u still
can have lots of fun with it. u can try hand catching, going high,
i also use it to test flight new sites which i am not familiar with before
                  flying other planes.

hey bro.. thnx for the advice.. will definitely keep the sky surfer.. i just hope that once ive done fine tuning it.. it shld fly nicely..

Yo! This is my first post for the forums, so you are lucky! How's your surfer?

I don't own a Sky Surfer but a Floater-Jet. Well I guess they are somewhat quite similar to each other.

                      Tips:
                      1) Check CoG and all linkages secured
                      2) Make sure it is launched around the angle of 60 degree. I'd seen others hand launching their seriously underpowered crafts 45 degree and crash (not enough airspeed to climb)
                      3) Best of all, get someone to hand launch for you so you have the initial control at your joysticks.
                      4) Beginners always have habits of over-controlling the plane. Try to reduce the throws on the plane ailerons and rudder or use pulsing taps on the joystick to control the plane.

                      1 cent.
