Mini "Chong" Merlin From Jet Hobby

I just bought a mini chong merlin from Jet Hobby for under $90, its ARF just need batt and Rx/Tx. The plane's wingspan is 13 cm shorter than Merlin and uses a 6A ESC so outdoor flying with gusty wind is a total failure. When you pull hard on the plane, it tends to flip and it flips easily, does not have strong motor, body compartment is super small, can barely fit my batt I used for Kinectic 800 which is a 450mAh 20C 11.1V. CG off balance, need to attach a AAA batttery near the tail end of the plane, on the other hand, the good news is that the crash kit is under $30. But for another $10, you could have Kinectic 800 delivered, conclusion, unless your living room is as big as an indoor stadium, forget about it.

Let me get this straight. U flew the Swift in your living room?

This plane you're talking about sounds like the Swift. Flying with 6A esc sounds very underpowered. Even the slightly larger Merlin or Kinetic utilises a 20A and 30A esc respectively. Anyway, i don't get the point of your post; are you complaining about the plane, or Jet Hobby for selling the plane? Or are you promoting the Kinetic? The Kinetic's not entirely reliable too you know; I had one and the servos died on me after a few flights. The 30A esc they put inside is also overkill, when 20A will do.
      Beastx installed and flying ...

I have both the Mini Swift and Kinetic 800. IMHO: I like the Mini Swift much better. It has better flying characteristics. The feel of the Kinectic 800 is more grunt akin to a powerful glider whereas the Merlin rides the wing like a weighted feather.

Bro, are you asking for assistance or you want to rant? Sometimes before you want to diss the plane, you have to look at yourself and ask "Am I fit to fly?". In one of your posts you mentioned you crashed this plane in an old folks' home. That is dangerous . If you are a new flyer and have little knowledge setting up planes, go and seek help from regular flyers. Cheers

Not sure what you're trying to do, but you should read up some of the threads on RCGroups about the Mini-Swift. I've flown it and found it quite okay (and I'm no expert!) - very tame and glides well with the supplied folding prop. Landings can be done quite safely with power off.

First of all, you should try to get the CG located on the CF rod spar on the wing. That's about the best location.

Then for your next complaint about the airplane "flipping over", you should use lower rate setting for your elevators and especially ailerons. Sounds like you're overcontrolling, so this adjustment will help to make the airplane less sensitive and tamer in the air.

Just do some test glides, with power off, i.e. just hand launch and watch it settle down gradually. Once you can get a good glide - it should fly very well.

Drill some venting holes to direct cooling air for the motor and ESC - both tend to get very hot during full-throttle. Motor and ESC combi, as some have noted, are slightly underpowered, so you got to keep an eye on the wind direction and not fly too high or far away.

As for comparing Mini Swift with Merlin Just look at the price tags!!

P/S: try not to fly towards old folks' homes, ok?

Couldn't resist... you noted that the airplane is already underpowered, but went ahead to attach additional weight of an AAA battery... I think this is the root cause of some of your problems. Likely the CG is already too far to the rear.
