Newbie questions

Hi, I am a newbie looking forward to start my journey down rc flying and I have a few questions to ask.

1) What are ESC and Servos?

2) Are there any flying sites in north-east(serangoon north, hougang, sengkang)?
So far I have read of a few in buangkok and sengkang but I would like to know if there are more.

3) Am I only able to fly a glider at bedok resevoir?

Esc (electronic speed control) control motor speed.
Servo control moving surfaces.

There punggol field walk.

Bedok reservoir can only fly glider without motor and this is only during the north east monsoon
