    S-pou project

I was over at Joe's place last weekend and he showed me his latest RCME magazine. Flipping through the pages, something caught my eye. A cute little indoor plane.

I am like going back to basic. So after searching the internet and some information from Joe, I decided to scratch build the S-POU. The original wind span is 17.5" but I decided to scale it to 23". I must admit I have not build a scratch build plane for a very long time mostly because I am lazy. haha.

With Adobe Illustrator, drew the basic shape of the model.

Some cutting and sanding, the ribs.

This will be my CNY long weekend project. If it rains and no sloping

    Stay tune.

      Happy New Year everybody.

Came back in the afternoon after some visitation and did some sanding, glueing and cutting.

After a couple of hours, 2 wings completed.

      Another couple of hours more.

      Not bad for a 4 hours+ work.

Fast to build, hopefully good to fly!

Completed over the long CNY weekend. I wanted to cover the wings with red oracover lite but there wasn't enough materials so had to mix with white. The motor is dualsky 1780 with the built-in esc spinning a 8x4 prop. I have no idea where is the CG position. I made a lipo compartment just behind the motor but I think it's too nose heavy. Putting the 2s lipo where the cockpit is looks more like the correct CG but I need to extend the power wires longer to reach the lipo. Hope to go somewhere less windy to maiden it. Yesterday it took it's first flight without me from the table.

Sorry for the dark pictures. Taken from iphone 3G (no flash)

Tried to maiden the plane yesterday. Not successful. I think it the CG problem.

What is the current cg location?
From my memory, for this double wing configuration the cg is in between the two wings, my guess is around the leading edge of the aft wing.

That where I thought too but this is a Canard elevator. With the cg at 70% upper wing it stall straight away.. I move my lipo to the nose. It was ok but it spin like tip stall

This is more like tandem wing, man!

Anyway, I forgot to tell you that I have the plan for a free flight version given to me in my secondary school days. Only problem is that I need to dig into my cabinet to find it.

Perhaps the same one as on the Plan Page?

Could be. It was a free plan from a very of issue of the "Aeromodeller" magazine.
