The 58 inch Extra was designed around the new Torque Revolution 4014T/570
Brushless Outrunner motor and Airboss Elite 80 Amp ESC with SBEC. This is the best
choice for powering the Extra, providing plenty of power for any maneuver imaginable.
Other outrunner motors in this class will work as well but may require slight modification
to the motor mount. We also recommend the use of the Hitec HS-5245mg digital mini
servo for aileron and elevator. The standard HS-225MG is also a good choice. We used
a standard size digital servo for rudder (Hitec HS-5475). The HS-475 is also a good
choice. Please take a few minutes to read this manual before beginning assembly to get
familiar with the process.
Thanks for the advice. More tips will me much welcome.
Cheers.
One thing in particular you might want to know is that the Airboss ESC has been tested quite extensively by EFRC to be able to support the digital servos like 5245 all round for the aircraft without the need for separate BEC.
For the 5s setup, the torque motor 4016T-500 (280g) provides up to 1.4kw power on 15x8e prop. The closest setup AXI for example recommended will be the 4120/18 (320g). I remember searching around before in 2008, it is hard to find another brand that does the same weight and power ratings.
You might want to read the comprehensive RC Groups review (covers most 3D moves too) too. Basically, all of us in PFW who ever owned a EFRC plane always marvelled at its quality (bundled goodies), joy of building process and flight characteristics. Scale pilots, wing bags, scale cockpit, fiber gears etc, the electronics so far are just as top notch if you are considering the setup.
Stop looking for a gyro in my plane, they are all in the head.
