Simple small RC planes with Depron

Hi, Just to share a simple creation using Depron, electronics from DWE and downloaded plans from RCgroups : the 14 inch wing span Daddy-O depron plane. It flew !! Up to 8-9 storey high on a calm early saturday morning.

    Sci_fighter,

That's a really cute and tiny plane you got. Problem with planes this small is the equipment... How much did the equipment cost and where did you obtain them!?!?

Hi Csisfun. I bought the electronics online from Dynamics Unlimited formerly also known as DWE - Dynamics Web Enterprises. The plane has a 5.6g KP00 motor with a U80 propeller. The heart of the system is the tiny 2.1g RFFS100 receiver which has proportional throttle control, rudder and elevator servo controls. I am using only one magnetic coil servo (1.1g) to control the rudder. I could also add another magnetic coil servo to control the elevator which I did not do so.( Could add later on I guess ) The battery is a 5.8g 250 mAh LiPoly. So total flying weight 's about less than 30g. You might like to visit the web site www.slowfly.com for more details. Total cost : KPOO Motor+U80 prop ( USD19 ), RFFS100+crystal ( USD99.95 ) -- most expensive item, Magnetic coil servo+controlhorn+insert+carbon rod (USD26) and battery ( USD16). Looks expensive in all but most parts are easily reusable on other planes esp the RFFS100 unit which you probably need only to get one ( initially ).

Hi. Thought I put up some pics of the plane in the air. These were taken this early morning 23 May 2005 at CCK Ave 3. I was blessed with another calm morning and was really delighted to see the plane cruising in the air.

Thanks Jcho. I like this plane very much. Credit has to go to the designer Thayer Syme and also Reddog at RCgroups & SFA (www.smallflyingarts.com) Forum who converted the plane to foam version. I have downloaded previously a simple blurred thumbnail jpeg of the plan from Reddog's RCGroup thread which I enlarged and traced the outline onto the depron. BTW, I have used 6mm depron for the main fuselage and 2 mm depron for the wing, rudder and stabilizer. A dihedral of about 1.5 inch was used on the main wing. Enjoy the plan and hope you have as much fun as I have with this plane.

Hi Loyn. I got my 2mm depron online from depronusa ( www.depronusa.com ). How much depron do you need by the way ?

Oh from oversea....well should not be much as I have the same system you are using. I use balsa to make a 6 inch indoor plane but heavy ! Want to use the 2 mm depron to build another lighter airframe .....Are u planning to let go some

Hi Loyn. I can certainly spare you some. Could you roughly let me know the sheet area ( Length x breadth ) you might need. I still have a full sheet which is 48 cm x 74 cm. Also let me know how I can pass it to you -- where in Jurong ? What type of 6 inch plane are you making ? I have tried a number of times making planes of similar dimension but failed to get them flying well. I find them very unstable ( perhaps too heavy) with the DWE electronics. Kind of felt that the DWE electronics are better suited to 10-16 inch planes weighing less than 30 g. Maybe you can give me better advice in this area ?.
