Multiplex ParkMaster 3D Paint Job and Mini-Review

Since my Yak build is not moving, and I'm dying for a quick build of an aerobatic plane, I went out to get a Multiplex Park Master 3D. I've got good experience with MPX planes. They make good "go-to" planes. What makes a good "go-to" plane? For me, something small and durable, easily repairable in the field and generally a well designed plane. Of course ease of build and and unambiguous and clear instructions add to the whole experience. With good personal experiences with the Easy Glider (Slope version), Funjet(x2) and Gemini, the ParkMaster 3D just seemed a natural choice for me.

I'm skipping the whole build process for this mini-review as there's really not much to say. Except that I used the new Mercury Adhesive CA. Great stuff. And I like the cap design. No more untwistable stuck caps. I'm using Mercury Adhesive CA from now on.

What I also like about MPX planes is that it's white foam. It's an empty canvas for us to design it the way we like it. I've decided on the colour scheme to reflect Gernot Bruckman's winning Krill Katana from last year's Tucson Aerobatic Shootout.

I started by spraying the canopy. Quite easy but I would learn that I should not have done this step yet.

After that I taped up the parts that I wanted to remain white.

Then, I covered the parts that I did not want to spray yet with newspaper and tape.

The spray job generally went on quite easy. Only problem is that the painter's tape is still not low tack enough and pulled off quite a bit of the paint from the canopy. Now I've gotta find a way to respray the canopy again.

    Well that's all for now.

Coming up in the next few days: Paint Job on the wings, elevator and rudder.

    Cheers,
    Adnan

After a busy weekend with work, I finally got to continue to work on the PM3D. The masking and spraying took me three times longer to complete as compared to the build. But that's the trade off to get a plane looking the way I want it.

Voila. Still needs some touch up here and there, but it's more or less done. Here's a dry fitting to give a good feel of how the plane will look once it's completed

It's getting real close to completion. Cannot wait to get this up in the sky. It has been some time since I've flown. My head all healed and I got meself a helmet for my flying sessions.

      Cheers,
      Adnan

Cool job! Just a small suggestion about the masking tape: you can try sticking it onto you shirt or pants before applying it to the surface. This will allow the tape to pick up some lint and not make it too tacky.

BTW, I'm curious to know what is a "go-to" plane?

"Go-to" is also another word for plug&fly.

                  Hey man,

I've not been flying for a while and itching like crazy already. Good enough my wife is "OK" with me flying again. Must give her peace of mind when I fly theen I also can fly stress free. And that's what's flying about: to relieeve the stress and built up tension of the week.

                  Cheers,
                  Adnan

P.S. Can anyone see the linked pics?

Huh I see. But if it means "plug & fly", wouldn't it mean ready-to-fly or ready-to-go? Which would bring us back to the common term "good-to-go". Maybe he meant to say 'good-to-go'. Unless there's a new term used here I'm unaware of.

Well, for me a 'go-to' plane means a plane which is my primary, hassle free plane. The plane being a plug & fly type plane is usually the case.

                            Cheers,
