    Building the FVK Bandit

Since there are 6 new owners of bandits running around...thought Id start a thread on building the bandit. This will be my second bandit build...

FOr more info on the bandit go here...http://www.fvk.de/Englisch/Bandit.html

The bandit is pretty well made ARF...the motor firewall is already glued in and so are all the ventilation holes for the motor all precut, even the mounting holes for the wing attachement screws are all done for you...

The bandit is capable of taking up to 2000W of power so it seems....I have had buddies local and overseas powered it past the 1KW and its still survives...

To ensure that this baby holds together, a little reinforcement wont hurt....12K carbon rovings are mixed with 90 min epoxy from selleys or araldite. They are then applied to the outer circumference of the firewall both inside and outside of the fues and let sit overnite..

Likewise the area where the wing leading edge pins sit into the fuse is also given a healthy dose of 12k rovings. The carbon rovings you see running to the back of the fuse was done by the manufacturer. All I did was add the rovings running under the 2 holes across the fuse.

    Servos.....

Tail - HS 81MG or similar for the Elevator.
Wing - HS 65 HB or MG for the Ailerons.

    Do you feel the RUSH....!!!!

Yes as you get past 100amps...The CC125 cant be neat...jus program the hi current shut off and she'd take up to 160 amps in short 3-5 sec burst...

Not bad for $270....No need those expensive hackers that cost $500++

Anyway...I have started on the elevator...First build the Hi powered Elevator horn as recommended by FVK. They do provide a glass fibre 2mm horn but its only mounted on 1 side of the elevator surface...so for Hi power... they provide a template and I use 2mm carbon fibre plate to create one. Drill the 2mm hole for the control rod before you mount the the horn on the elevator

Next mount the stabilizer on the plane and make sure its lined up right on the fuse...ie its perpendicular in all axis. Than mark the center of the stabilizer. You need a reference. Than from the center, Mark a 7mm line to the port side of the elevator surface as this is where you mount the horn...please not in the dead center....7mm port of the center!!!!!

Next you need to slot the elevator so that the horn can slide into place ensuring that the hole for the control horn is 12mm back from the hingeline. This is also given in the instructions. Use a hot soldering iron to remove any unwanted monokote covering film to expose the bare balsa...use thick CA(Roberts pink bottle from Rotor or Zpoxy Thick CA from NTC) and apply to the slot and all other surfaces that come into contact with the control horn.

Slide the control horn in place ensuring it is properly lined up perpendicular

Apply some accelerator and lock it in place....slide the control rod in place....make sure there is little play bewteen rod and horn...if there is , put some thin CA while the rod is in the horn...apply some CA kicker and twist the rod inthe hole...this should take up some of the gaps..

All this took me 2.5 hours...this included dinner thrown in. OK I eat fast...

                        Do you feel the RUSH....!!!!

Anyway I plan to power this baby with ...

                          AXI 2826/10
13x11 Aeronaut Prop or 14.5x14 RFM...
                          4S2P TP Extremes
                          ESC - Shhhhhhh...

All salvaged from past planes.....better use the gear while its still in good condition.
