I think Slow Sticks are pretty cheap and tough. Good for pilot training.
Else...apart from Mugi....EPP planes loh."Always fly with a responsible attitude. You may think that flying low over other people’s heads is proof of your piloting skill; others know better. The real expert does not need to prove himself in such childish ways..." - the Multiplex Build Manual

Slow sticks are cheap and good and they are light, so most crashes (hopefully) won't be catastrophic.
For a smaller model, use the pico stick.

Agree, I do start RC from slow stick. Although it does not look "smart" to begin with. But can do some improvement at later stage. I'm a newbie, as far as RC goes. Just learn how to fly now too long ago. So Yoda589, I can't help you with the plane. But what you can do:-
If you don't have any experience in RC at all. Go and approach those flyers and seek their recommendation. I did it this way. Approach some flyers in Punggol and they recommended me this guy in PFW. Bought the necessary equipment from him, based on his recommendation. Paid him a small amount to built it for me. He did all the necessary trimming and such, and teach my son how to fly. You might like to know, he didn't overcharge me.... bcos I check those pricing, hor.
Why it is best to get someone to built it for you, if you're a newbie... That is bcos I know nuts about those things. I got a group of friends and we dive-in without much knowledge of RC. Bought all the necessary, fixed it up and than. We struggle in keeping the planes in the air (for a few months) and not knowing what is the cause of the problem.
So it is good to have someone experience beside you as you fly. It helps for this will reduce the learning curve and put your plane up faster, minimising those crashes....... and if you do crash, those experts can advise you what to do to repair it.
Hope this helps.
