    REFERENCE: Planes combination that works

    Hi,

    Saw this idea from rcgroups.

How about listing your setup that give a flyable plane.

This will help anyone who is new with that particular plane knows what setup combination has been proven ok by someone here... (Less frustrations from trial and errors, less broken props and motor shafts, more confidence during maiden flight)

    Keep it simple:
    1) Motor
    2) Gears
    3) Propellor
    4) Battery
    6) Servos
    7) ESC
    8) Any addtional weight added to get CG correct.

Maybe we can keep it tidy.. and avoid posting comments/questions. Use PM or start another thread if there are questions... so this can kind of become our quick check database.

              Errrmm...........

For the motor/gearbox and prop setup to be successful, depends greatly on the design of the airframe. The wing area, airfoil, airframe weight plus overall drag is the main factors that an engineer will look into first in order to decide on the powerplant setup.
Since most of us fly GWS type foamies which have relatively similar airframe specs, some of the above mentioned setups are valid but not really applicable to all other types. Maybe some specific details in the airframe like the weight, wing area and possible the airfoil will make this thread more meaningful.

I was aiming to help folks who purchase a particular model, say a GWS spitfire; and instead of wondering what combi to try, he can come here to find out for that model, what had worked for someone... and he can try out the same combi, or seek the person for more help.

This is aim to allow beginners and intermediate flyers to reference to... experts are welcome to contribute what works for them.. but I guess experts already know more than enough to pinpoint what works for them best, and are already using software like motocalc to help them design. Newbies like myself... motocalc's generated numbers make no sense to me.

That's why I have asked everyone to keep it simple, and neat, and avoid posting comments in this thread.

Otherwise, with all the discussions, this thread is just going to be another one clutted with chatters and lay waste.

What's the amp draw on this? Seems a little on the high side.

                              * hehe * u're right, the lipo is really hot after ~8-9 min of flying. won't be surprise is its in the 15 to 20 amp range.

don't have the right tools to measure the amp draw and friends keep telling me to prop down, but somehow, i still prefer the security of not having to make a running start for all my hand launches.
