Hi. the singapore youth flying club has two seperate courses. first is the aeromodeling which is for sec sch and below. that will be held mainly on weekends. the other course is the flying training course. if you wanna fly a real plane and get your private pilot's licence, you have to meet these criterias:
        Singaporean
        Age
16 to 21 for students in JC or Poly
        16 to 23 for undergraduates
New applicant to a Junior College, Polytechnic, Millennia Institute, Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore and Singapore Management University. Applicant must be studying full-time at the start of his flying training course. Those already in a school should not have completed the first 3 months of their first year of studies. (Students from the IP/IB programme who meet requirements and joining JC1 the following year may also apply, see "When to Apply" for more details)
Healthy, not asthmatic and should not have any major illnesses or injuries
Height - 1.62m to 1.90m and not obese
        Eyesight requirements
        Short-sighted - below 300 deg each eye
Astigmatism - below 75 deg each eye
        Not colour blind
        No other eye deficiencies
5 GCE 'O' level passes with credits in English, Mathematics and Science. Students in the IP/IB programme need not meet the 'O' level requirements but they must be studying English, Mathematics and Science in school

its completely free! yes free. but the selection criteria and interview is tough. for every 5 who apply, only 1 gets in. but dont worry. just apply. but be prepared for hard work and time. you must be dedicated and commit yourself to the sorties (missions/training sessions). the instructors are good but strict. many pple worn't get through the whole course but for those who do, its a worth while experience. all the best man!

hmmm if you are no longer asthmatic you can go for this asthma test to prove you no longer have it. but if you know you still do then it'll be kinda expensive to take the test. i had to do that bcos of childhood asthma but ok liao. hmmm abt the aeromodeling i'm not too sure whats to age limit. maybe end of sec 4? that one you will have to call them and ask. sorry not too sure.

oh the test is at hospital to test if you still have asthma. you have to breath through this tube thing where they put some chemical in the gas you are breathing. if you are still asthmatic, you will straight away kanna mild asthma. but they will have the medicine stand by la.. but if you no longer have asthma then you will not feel anything. this test is needed only if you want to apply for the actual flying training AND have history of asthma. if you pass then you have prove that you are fit to join. cause they will see your health booklet when you apply. they will straight away check the page on asthma history. (not to confuse anyone reading this. if you wanna apply and dont have hostory of asthma then you dont need to go for this test.)

go do your test to clear your childhood asthma. its worth the try. after that if you get in work real hard and don't waste your chance. only 2-3 out of each course of 30 manage to finish. pia!

Sorry to divert abit off topic, anyone from the old batch of YFC? I mean the Tanglin days, I did mine back in 1998-1999, mostly under Tony and Mr Sim.

                          Cheers

                            i was there in YFC

i remember YFC in Tanglin... was there in 86-88.. did mostly aeromodelling and control line stuff... Was a very expensive hobby to take up... got very frustrated when my planes keep breaking up after every bus ride to and from school and home and YFC! I build but never fly... others did it for me!
