Hi,
I discovered this interesting forum after a search for the local RC scene. I was with the JFC many, many years ago and was active in control line. Took up a little bit of RC just before I retired completely.
I had flown a Cavalier High wing model, powered by a SuperTiger 45 and then an OS28 power Curare (not sure I spelled it correctly) with an inverted V tail. I had a 4channel Futaba (glad to know that the company still exist!), but I have no idea where is my set now.
The engines are classified as Glow or Diesel....what is nitro? I heard it many times in the forum.
In the old days, we flew at the Tuas runway (the road now leading to the 2nd-link). We had even camped there overnight and took off early in the morning on one occassion. Well......the good old days are gone, and I have since discarded all my tools and other stuffs due to shifting house, work, and whole lot of other excuses.
Been to the Seletar camp and watch some of my old buddies flying CL team racing, but the number of teams are very few. I have been thinking of taking up RC planes again, after I complete some of my other work/non-work related projects. I think I will go with Electric power to start with.
I read from the forum that there were many accronyms and short forms used in the messages, is there a link for all the terms that you guys are using here?
Also, I know nuts about electric, except that it runs clean, less noise, and less powerful. Back in the old days, the electic planes were limited and the technology wasn't so great.....is there any experts out there that can provide pointers on starting with electric planes? How long will a single charge last? What is the largest (wingspan) that a single motor can power? Is a 4 channel radio sufficient?....
I am staying in Tampines, and I know that flying the field in front of the mosque is banned. Other than the 'jungle' tampines bike park further up, where else can we fly in the next 5-6years? (thinking of future returns, if I invest into the hobby again). Hopfully, my daugther can have some fun and learn as well.
Looking forward in hearing from you all!
