    Returning after 20 years

    Hi,
I discovered this interesting forum after a search for the local RC scene. I was with the JFC many, many years ago and was active in control line. Took up a little bit of RC just before I retired completely.

I had flown a Cavalier High wing model, powered by a SuperTiger 45 and then an OS28 power Curare (not sure I spelled it correctly) with an inverted V tail. I had a 4channel Futaba (glad to know that the company still exist!), but I have no idea where is my set now.
The engines are classified as Glow or Diesel....what is nitro? I heard it many times in the forum.

In the old days, we flew at the Tuas runway (the road now leading to the 2nd-link). We had even camped there overnight and took off early in the morning on one occassion. Well......the good old days are gone, and I have since discarded all my tools and other stuffs due to shifting house, work, and whole lot of other excuses.

Been to the Seletar camp and watch some of my old buddies flying CL team racing, but the number of teams are very few. I have been thinking of taking up RC planes again, after I complete some of my other work/non-work related projects. I think I will go with Electric power to start with.

I read from the forum that there were many accronyms and short forms used in the messages, is there a link for all the terms that you guys are using here?

Also, I know nuts about electric, except that it runs clean, less noise, and less powerful. Back in the old days, the electic planes were limited and the technology wasn't so great.....is there any experts out there that can provide pointers on starting with electric planes? How long will a single charge last? What is the largest (wingspan) that a single motor can power? Is a 4 channel radio sufficient?....

I am staying in Tampines, and I know that flying the field in front of the mosque is banned. Other than the 'jungle' tampines bike park further up, where else can we fly in the next 5-6years? (thinking of future returns, if I invest into the hobby again). Hopfully, my daugther can have some fun and learn as well.

Looking forward in hearing from you all!

U can now fly an electric ducted fan model jet aircraft at over 150km/h at your nearby field.

    The possibilities are limitless.

Hi MS, welcome back to the RC scene, I'm staying at Tampines too, but always go to Punggol to fly. You can join us this weekend at the field opp Punggol Plaza. There are usually people flying from 730am onwards to round 12 noon.

                  This is the place:

If you're driving from Tampines, turn into Punggol, then turn right again and go straight, once u just pass Punggol Plaza, turn right and you'll reach the place.

                    Hi MSC,

Welcome back after 26 years, you have missed out lots of fun

We fly electric at the field opp Bedok Reservoir mosque every Sat/Sunday mornings 730am to 930am and evenings 430pm to 630pm. The field is not very big but we're able to fly warbirds, EDF, hotliners, pylons, 3D, helis there. We even have a legal radar gun to measure how slow our birds fly.

Punggol plaza is also a nice place to fly electric which I go occasionally if time permits.

The fun part about RC is to fly together, come join us at either Bedok reservoir or punggol plaza and everyone will be keen to share information with you

There is a good chance that we probably know each other. We may even have competed together in C/L competitions organised by JFC during that era. Same for me as above, JFC, Team Racing, Rat Racing etc then flying RC off Tuas. Some of my buddies have returned to TR in a big way but most have gone on to RC. Like you, after some 10 or more years of lay off. I think I stopped RC altogether for maybe 12-15 years before restarting again off and on for several years but seriously only with electrics some 3 years ago. Hope you will eventually get back to the hobby again. Its a great life time hobby.

                          Hi MSC, Tony,

welcome back, some of our old friend from JFC still flies today, like me, RC planes instead. We met Philips, Tony,Willie, Roderick, Ang occasionally too.

Maybe when we meetup at this Sat at Punggol Field Walks 7.30am onwards, helps recall old times. My time in JFC are days with Kah Teck, Sata, Philips, the twin brothers,.. miniSlow,Chuck Gliders, modified PAW and Cypola, Black Widows engines...etc.... plus buying fuel and mix them more nitrate for competitions from the lady at ground floor Tanglin JFC.

Not to forget camping overnight at JFC final touch up of our combat planes.
On top of these, some scars left on my index finger from the props....keke

Let me bring you some memories of old days at JFC

Check out these pics. I still have this plane now at home for memories....

Fibreglass balsa sand down airfoil. Remember the Balsa plainer we used, today, I use it for foam instead...times change bros...

Ok, now that I know that this place is crawling with Ex-JFC, I even feel more at home!

Let me sort out my schedule and see who can fetch my daughters to tuition classes on SAT and SUN. I may be able to catch up on all the fun lost....

                              Hi MSC !

LOL ! ....Same like you guys, I was ex-JFC in the seventies
GOSH ! has it been that long !

There is quite alot of changes in the YFC now, we have a dedicated F2C tarmac racing circle and a couple of grass C/L circles (Not to mention a spanking new SYFC building !) .....the group of C/L team racing people may be small, but they are really hard core ! .....They have helped to establish and organised trip to the C/L world championships in 2000, 2002 and 2004.
With hope to train up more youngsters with their help and experiences.

We also do indoor R/C flying at the Selatar Hangar on saturdays mornings, (Hopefully train more youngsters in electric R/C for the future)

Okay, lets all make a date this Sunday morning, the 2nd April at Ponggul Field.

                              Cheerio !

                              Tony (Another one ! )
Seriously running out of ...Storage space !
