How does this ESC & Brushless combo look? Quite good deal for $69 and I can use my 3S. Only problem is how to mount in the easy star? Also i think prop need to change. Any advise?

Actually you can consider the TT super cub, its a very nice plane to fly too, easy to assemble, and glides nicely. I knocked it into a lamp-post and it continues to glide to a nice landing without power. Comes with landing gears too.

You can use the default motor with a 2S lipo, or go brushless and use ur 3S (think it can go vertical )

And the best thing its < 1/2 price of the easystar

I dun have charger for nimh thats why looking at lipos.

BTW, which GWS ESC, went to webpage but alot of models... ICS, GS, E etc
GP1100 are 2/3AA batts 1.2v each soldered together. I suggest using lipos. Sure, voltage lower, but their voltage drop is not as high as nimh(assuming u use lipos of decent quality ie. etecs/thunderpower/etc) when u start sucking amps so overall the voltage is still higher. For GWS you should be looking at the ICS-400/ICS-480. I still suggest you go with the Greatplanes C-20 from NTC for 3 simple reasons. 1) it has a highly useful on-off switch and 2) It is of much better quality. 3)It spreads the throttle accross the whole stick range and not 80-90% like in the GWS stuff.

Are these the GWS u referring to:

        1) GWESC400 ICS-400Li
You got 2 options if you would like to use 3s. Somesay that you can use the 7.2v Multiplex 400 brushed motor for 3s.(It is direct replacement and costs 15bucks from NTC). Second option is that you could go straight to brushless. Mega 16/15/4 or Warp4 4t or Multiplex brushless will do good.

Having flown all 3, i think that easyglider is the easiest to fly. It flies the slowest and the easystar rudder feels just like the easyglider ailerons. Space Scooter is the most difficult to fly of the 3 although it is still quite easy to fly. Space Scooter also feels the most underpowered when stock. Both EZ* and EZglider have 2piece wings so it is small enough to bring around. Once in the air, you wont feel the size of the planes.

This set up requires a bigger prop then the space in the easystar would allow. Easystar prop is limited to ard 5" otherwise it will hit the fusalage. Yes, some people do put 6" props but they gotta cut away a little bit of foam.

Honestly, my experience with the TT super cub has not been that great. At $55 from rotor is is quite cheap. Unfortunately, the gearbox is terrible. It is also tends to tip stall VERY easily if you go a little overweight. A crash will result in the fuselage breaking at the nose section. If you buy this, best option is to change to a GWS EPS-350D drive and use a bigger prop which will give you more thrust. With tat drive, a 2s(approx)1200mah lipo will give u ballistic peformance. Trick is, KEEP IS VERY VERY VERY light!

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I was advised by JH that using brushless inrunner will need gear reduction. Then for outrunner need to modify the mounting plus need bigger prop also.

So, I'm planning to run 3S and fly it as stock as possible. I will probably get the C-20 ESC together with the kit from NTC, then see if they have the motor.

I checked with the lady there the last time but she did not recommend the (7.2v Multiplex 400 brushed motor for 3s) motor though. Nonetheless, if dun have, i will just run the stock motor @ throttle max 1/2 stick (anyway i found out that its just $6).

Will get the plane up as stock as possible then further on when i have it built and flying then can judge how extensive the mods need to be to accomodate the upgrades.

Not a good idea to use 3s on 400 motor. motor will get hot and melt the foam, even if you run half throttle. and eventually motor burn and risk of batt blooted.. me done that and experience b4..

think it's better to invest in bushless motor and esc, there power is there and i didn't regret it since.

modifying ez* motor mount is hard work. Yes, you do need to gear most inrunners a little bit to drive 5" props. BTW, multiplex 7.2v 400 motor is $15. (german wad... ). But if u want the least hassle brushless setup, go with the mega 16/15/X or Warp4 Xturn. Those are drop in replacements.(They are inrunners and do not need gearing)

                Just an update everyone,

Purchased the easystar yesterday together with an esky esc (hope it holds). Also picked up 2X2S from JH. These batteries are not like the normal 2S used in micro heli. Its bigger and is rated at 1600mah (12C). I hope they are ok, esp with the nose light easystar.

I have just completed assembling the plane tested the CG. Surprising, i anticipated the need to add lead to the nose. But when i push the 2S2P all the way to the front, it was nose heavy... by quite alot.

I moved the battery to near the centre of the canopy mounts to achieve the desired CG. Now i'm waiting fr my tx batts to charge then will go for a test flight. Wish me luck, and thanks for all the advise given. I will update with the maiden soon.
