personally, i felt that the easyglider would have made a better trainer, more comfortable than the slowstick in terms of handling. alot more forgiving too. anybody who agrees? or disagrees for that matter.

the answer to that question is not to agree or disagree.
buy what ever you want for the first plane. you always have a choice, we only advise base on what is proven. i have seen newbies bought a warbird and crash on their maiden, they do have a choice but being a human, you will ahve to make the choice youself.
so be it war bird, jets, slow stick or etc. just fly what ever you wish to fly. if it crash, its only yourself to blame.

I used to own a GWS cub, which is similar to the stick, and it's wonderful to fly in the calm mornings and evenings. However, that's where it's advantages ends. In our perpetual windy climate, other than flying indoors, I find little chance of flying it properly outdoors. Whether it's a good trainer or not, it's up to individual experiences. Personally, I'll prefer a gas high wing trainer which I can start with basic flying all the way to some basic aerobatics with 1 single plane. Maybe, I'm just being conservative.

i chose the supercub over the slowstick. but that doesnt mean that it cant be a first plane. ive seen people flyhing wing dragons and gliders and other planes as their first plane

Maybe you are right. A lot of time, it really depends on individual's capabilities. Some are gifted and already capable of most sport planes. Others may need a really fool proof plane to start will.
I may not be giving a fair comment, because there isn't much electric planes to start with when I first started R/C. But I have to say, nitro trainers are more straight forward in terms of powerplant selections. No such things like brush or brushless, lipo or conventional packs.

how ever if someone is going to go alone. that is not ideal at all...
I have not come across someone who is totally new to flying turn the plane into a lawn dart on first toss of the plane.
that is going to be really expensive.
I hope you meant the Easy star .... coz i will second this plane too.
if set up right, its is a slow enough turn rate that gives enought reaction time for the flier and it can take some wind and to top it all, it has a pusher style.

A beginner will be breaking loads of props and gws gearboxes on the slowstick..
I feel the easy star is a great trainer! And easy glider could be your 2nd planeTX:2 Sanwa Quasars , Futaba 9C super (heli)
Gliders :JW 54 , Sprinter , Flip400 (unbuilt)
Planes: Jumping Jack,,Zoom 4D,IFO, magic 3d,

I own a slowstick so I might be bias
Slowstick or easystar? IMHO, slowstick is a better cadidate for a beginner who has absolutely no experience with r/c flying. Yes, the slowstick is thrash when they is wind. The gws 300series gearbox, gear and shaft CMI and youchop plus stamp break a prop if you crash the slowstick. Lastly, to some it is UGLY. But that is it. Having a metal fuse, it is actually quite hard and impossible to destroy it. When you opps and break the horizontal and vertical stab, you can make another one out of 5mm depron. It flys so slow, so gentle. Throw away the eps300 if you have it, or try to get the version with eps400. The eps400 running d gear(stock slowstick comes with d gear) spinning a 10 x 4.7 or 11x 4.7 is slow and powerful. Moreover, the shaft never bend in crash, the gear hardly strip. The slowstick is also quite a bit cheaper than the easystar. For the price difference, a slowstick with 20props is still cheaper than a easystar.
I started out with e-starter, I was crashing a lot and breaking it every other minute of flight. That is despite the fact that I have experience in nitro heli and can do basic aerobatics with nitro heli. Then I got the slowstick and had a crash free sunday.
Nitro or electric for beginner?
I would say electric. Why? Electric no engine tuning, no breaking in of engine, not so loud so not so intimidating, and foam planes can use foam safe CA and glue back in crash. Electric is simple, give longer flight time and it is actually easier to overpower the plane a bit. Nitro flight is fun, the sound, the smoke, the power, all give so much kick. Furthurmore, nitro trainer float and land quite well and slow just like their electric counterpart. So if got deep pocket can start with nitro. Otherwise, I would suggest a nitro bird as a 3rd plane(maybe a low wing trainer or funfly plane) after one has graduate from a 4ch electric trainer.

Had a SS not too long ago. Had been flying for about 2-3 months, lands perfectly all the time for me, no nicks or scratches on the soft foam wing, for at least 50 flights. Since sold it, with the perfect condition wing (that SS was soon lost to some strong winds in Bedok, landed on top of a factory)
There is only one secret to flying the SS - get the CG right and I can tell you this: this plane will land itself even when you power off your Tx.
This is a perfect beginner plane, as well as for those who wants a stress-free sortie once in a while.
My $0.02.

Hi guys,
Getting the plane you like is one thing, flying it is another. One will soon lost interested when the high perf plane that he/she bought crash every other day. Having someone to fly with you really improve one's flying skill. A lot infomation thru casual chatting. Feel free to join the flying group and feel free to ask question. Get yourself a simulator. It really helps for the newbies. I was a newbie once and I spend most of my time flying sim during the first few weeks.
On getting your first plane, get a slow and forgiving plane. Both Easy glider and Slowstick are very forgiving plane. One being more 'handsome' and bigger' than the other. Both of them are recommended to beginners. The only factor maybe that will affect your choice of plane is the cost...
Happy Flying...Just because we grow up, doesn't mean we stop playing...in fact, the games just get better and the toys just get bigger...

Hi Guys,
Just my two cents worth...
I had a firend who started to learn on electrics and when he transitioned to nitro, he had to start all over again. Bigger, faster, learning ROG and landing.... Then again for myself, I started on nitro and had no problem transitioning to electric so I guess it would depend on what the individual has in store for the future. If one has no intention of going nitro then perhaps a powered glider, something stable and slow would be a good start, however if he has plans to eventually go nitro, i suggest forget the electrics and start with a classic 40
