This Windex 1200C has scale outlines. No extended wing area, and of course, no guarantee. Foam in canopy is dissolved away after 3 layers of glasscloth. Painted with Tamiya Acrylic paints. Weight is approaching 12 oz and I'm gettig worried for the 280 motor. Only left servo installations and flight control riggings. 4 channels total with 4 servos. Wish me luck!
Thanks. The entire airframe is hotwire cut to thier individual basic shape. The curves on the fuselage are then hand carved and sanded. The problem is that the weight is getting on and I have go easy with the wing finishing, which resulted less than ideal one. That's the major problem of small models. Maybe I'll build a larger one to give a better finishing next time. Foam is also very prone to hangar rashes and this bugger is not spared either.
Mike, thanks but as usual, most of my maidens are done ADHOC and without early notice.
Hey Joe,
Ever thought of starting a building class to teach us your secrets?
Well done! Looks bloody good. I have no doubt that it will fly well. How the wind conditions at the slope nowadays?
Cheers!
No real secrets. Just a number of templates to get the shape right.
Maybe when I start my next Blue/white foam+balsa+composite glider, I'll start a new thread.
Got better Idea for you Joe, How about when you start to build a new plane you invite us over to your house so that we can see first hand how a master builder does it...hahahaa.
Maidened it today. Just as expected, the power is just okay to give shallow climb. Flying is so-so only. Not as good as I expect but I think it has a lot to do with the ESC without brake. The prop does not fold and gliding is pretty lousy. The wings are strong enough but too flexible which make the ailerons ineffective. The prop will also cause the airplane to nose dive when powering up due to the high thrust line. I think I have to seriously rebuild another set of wings and computer mix the elevator with throttle next time. I think my usual balsa sheeted white foam wings should do better.
