    Intro to EDF

    hi guys,

I am new to rc planes and would like to eventually fly an EDF jet.
I would like some advice on how to get started with edf planes after passing the trainer stage and also what EDF models would be a good introduction to flying EDF.

    EDF jets

    HI w_J

EDF jet is a new interesting topics to talk abt and trying to fly on edf jets can be one easy and can be tought.

The set up must be more into detail, quality and premium.

Detail will include on the wing loading/wing incident angle (tis will result on the plane flying characteristic eg :F16, F86, Su27, mirage all are different) , power plant (motors)-power to dive trust from the ducted fan , ESC (resistance internal) all ESC got different resistance fm 0.0013~0.0045 omh, batteries (discharge) fm 15C~20C.

Quality will include on your soldering, your connection, building of the plane (structure, re-enforcement).

Premium will include ESC, batteries (charger, balancer, mataining), planes to spend on, Servos, ducted fan blades/ housing. Setup mormally will be abt $450 and also could be above (ESC, motors, fan units, plane, gd servos, batteries, receiver)

A good introductory will be the interceptor or firebird. You may not get them easily, cos always sold out (jet hobby/ champion hobby). Foam are better for beginner as repair can be very simple (hot water, epoxy, foam glue). GWS
A-10 is a little difficult in the setup-(ESC wiring for twin brushless motor) and brushes motor will not be enough power when strong wing attack. Microjet to modify into ducted fan can be easily done and fun/fast to fly, challenging part is the hand lunch - cold sweat for a while for beginner).

Can't finish in a short paragraph.

Summrise... just do it... life is short. get one and fly and enjoy it...

May the duct force be with you.

go to www.rc-warbirds.com , search edf plane (hope you will fly one of these one day). happy flying

Hi W.J when going from normal propeller driven systems to EDF(electric ducted fan) you should consider the cost & size of the plane.

For a beginner you consider the cost and the flying characteristics.
Zennith is right when he recommend the "firebird"
This plane has over 220sq inch of wing area so you need at least 200- 220watts of power to get a decent flying chracteristics.
It is a stable and can do a OML(one man launch).
You would need a 30Amps ESC better still a 40Amps ESC if you want to fly bigger and hotter Electric Jet models at later stage.

Go to my thread and replies and others similar topic for introductory EDF.

After you are comfortable and want to advance to better EDF you go for the wemotec 480 EDF unit . Check with Warbird for more info on the Wemotec EDF.
