    Ni-mh versus Ni-cd

just a question to pose, which is better metal hydride battery pack or the nic-cad battery pack?

wat i found out that ni-cad cost more compare to ni-mh reason is that i just bought 4.8v 1400mah at $36++(brand SHS) while 4.8v 600mah at $50++ (brand Futaba)....is it bcause of the brand?

very confused bcause wat i know metal hydride no memory effect while ni-cad has memory problem if not charge correctly...is it true?

    help me

    WOAH!

For that money, you can buy a 10 cell KAN pack and two connectors! If you know how to solder, you can make 2 4 cell packs! Just some advisory, I feel SHS is ripping you off. :na

As for memory effect, it's not such a big issue in reciever packs, since you don't ask for excellent performance unlike those who fly electric, though NiCD has memory effect, NiMH has substantially less.

when using nimh pack in rx application, please be careful cause when without load, the voltage will be fine, but when under heavy load after some flying, they tend to drop quite a bit of voltage.

futaba branded batteries are just normal sanyo batteries, it is the brand that cost.

        nimh does have memory effect.
bud u can discharge it fully and then charge it completely
den the effect will be gone..
however for nicd if kana memory effect den can throw away liao

As far as manufacturer stated, Nimh does not suffer from memory effect, but it seems that they degrade their performance over time through personal observation.

              I find all batteries degrade over time :{

                For a reciever pack,

You probably won't notice the degrading performance, it's too minor and it stretches over years.

Both are good if used in the right way. Read-up and u'll know why.

From my own experience, for Rx batt, I realised Nicds (e.g. 2400mAh) have better staminer in terms of constant voltage...incidently its very important to R/C equipment. Especially for Helis where high torque servos and gyro are used.

NiMh (e.g. 800mAh or 2100mAh) works well in planes where standard servos are used and the load in this case is nothing compared to a heli.

In Tx, I have used both and found them to be ok, but have stuck to NiCds (1000mAh) as the voltage is still a factor for maintaining constant signal.

NiMh are good in Digital Camera application. All my 20pcs of 2100mAh AA Sanyo NiMh previously used in my R/C equip are now serving my DC.

I believe so, SHS is not only ripping me but stripping me to my bones..

if i do have the knowledge or experience in putting up my own battery packs it will definitely save me....

maybe its true that for rx battery pack i do not require excellent performance compare to electric flying but usually price that matters in buying the right battery pack...

                    Thanks for your feedback,

                      yes friend,

i noticed that in my tx battery pack...previously when new it will last me quite a while but recently after few months the voltage drops tremendously...

its true, i ever stripped futaba battery packs from its covering and it uses sanyo batteries instead so conclusion u r paying for the brand

                      thanks,

                        thanks,

yah maybe i will discharge after each use and recharge again the night before use for ni-mh and also do the same thing for ni-cd..

than we users should find the right battery packs for each individual use....i believe sooner or later as technology is expanding someone out there will come out with batteries which is irreplaceble or maybe no need to recharge after use....(maybe in our dreams)
