Hougang CC Model Power Boating Club

With the recent spat at this thread: Boating @ Lower Seletar Reservoir, I am starting a new thread so that anyone can complain, post suggestions & comments about the Hougang CC Model Power Boating Club that some members felt certain members' comment is unfair to the club and others felt the club is doing nothing.

At the same time, the Club can also post its defence and rebuttal.

It is NOT my intension of this thread to start a war but to consolidate all the complains, comments, suggestion in one place instead of being scattered all over the forum. Boaters are then able to judge for themselves who is making silly comments and who is doing the hard work

The main objective is to improve the club and to grow. With new boating area being built, a well organised club is important. And this thread could well be a database for future clubs.

Poster please remember (taken from the CC website):
The objective of this Club is This Club intends to bring information about R/C Boating to everyone who has an interest in the hobby, at the same time to equip members with the necessary skill needed to build and run their model boats safely and successfully. The aim of the Club is to foster good sportsmanship and camaraderic through model boat racing. The Hougang R/C Power Boats Club is a non-profit organization.

As the thread starter, I shall start it off:

    Comments & Questions:
    1) There should at least be an email contact for boaters to make enquiries. I do not see any at this Forum nor anywhere else. If there are, then it should be made more prominent.

    2) Who is who in the club? Chairman who? Any other people in any other position / post or is it a one man show?

    3) If I am to become a member, what does my $75.00 membership do to the "equip members with the necessary skill needed to build and run their model boats safely and successfully. .....to foster good sportsmanship and camaraderic through model boat racing."

Yah sure - this will surely help the hobby and club to grow. Maybe try organising some activities for newcomers in your area, teach the young or something.

        Let me say this...

Anyone who is just sitting on their butt complaining in a forum like this about not getting their money's worth from a club membership, a club has not done enough to get facilities, etc. etc. should either (1) take the initiative and do something about it (just like what Ezzy has done to secure PP as a place for RC boating and what Adrian is now doing to secure Seletar and other places for RC boating) or (2) get another hobby other than bitchin from the comforts of their home.

Spending money on your own boats will not get you better facilities. Only spending time, effort and money on better facilities will get you Better Facilities. Does anyone honestly think Hougang CC (or any other CC), PUB, Nparks are going to allocated a large budget to build better facilities for just a few scattered casual model boaters? Probably not. But if there are enough people in the community who voice their interest directly to these authorities, you will probably stand a better chance. Even then, don't expect $$$ and resources to be allocated for RC boating facilities overnight. Ezzy has spend years lobbying the CC for a budget allocation so that a sheltered two level RC boat launching platform is constructed at PP. Although the plans for the platform has been finalised, he is still waiting for a budget allocation (anyone in this forum got a lazy $35,000 lying around??). Having PP officially designated by NParks (you can check their website) as a venue for RC power boating is no easy task. That's why we should support those like Ezzy and Adrian who have taken the initiative to improve things. If you wanna bitch, stop hiding behind internet forums and bitch directly to the authorities in writing. Don't degrade the quality of DH because things have not been delivered to you on a silver platter.

I commend the likes of Ezzy and Adrian... if you think you can do better, step up to the mark and do it.
If in doubt - add more horsepower!

Nothing much really. I happily lay down the membership fees when I first got interested in RC Boating but didn't own a boat then. The very reason is a show of support and commendation of an individual - Mr Ezzy efforts in lobbying Nparks to allow us a chance in enjoying RC boating at a designated place rather them playing illegally in some filthy Longkang. $25 dollar does not seem to get very far these days so I don't expect very much.

$25 ( $25/12months=$2.08 bucks per month) to engage in our leisure pursuit is really not a aweful lot to pay and play.

Best to drop by one Sunday afternoon to see what the boaters are running on that day. There are many different hull designs and powerplants and the set up for each hull/powerplant combo is different. Even then, the PP boaters spend a lot of time experimenting and tuning their boats. Usually takes a few visits to get things running right anyway... even for those who are "experienced". Ezzy is a gas/nitro guru with experience in mono, hydro, cat and other hulls. For EPs, you may have to ask DH members like Mad Armour, Adrianli, Frank or Ammo because they have squeezed a lot of performance out of hulls you can readily buy from JH, Tough Racing and other places.

As for racing at PP, you will find that if several people happen to get their boats running well on the day, there will be a spontaneous oval race amongst them (no matter if they are nitro, BL, or otherwise). It would be great to have scheduled races once a month, but don't know whether there will be enough for a particular class because boaters run a large variety of boats. In that sense, the races will need to be truly "OPEN"

Boaters will have a variety of boats. If it is a published racing calender example 2nd week of the month is Nitro Race Day and 4th week is Gas Race Day. Then we can specially prepare the correct boat and congregate to make it really happening !!

Newbies who drop by will not be disappointed to see no action at all. I had visited PP some Sundays and found not a boat insight from 12 to 4pm

Lets not rest on the laudable effort & achievement of the founders but to help & volunteer to bring it to a higher level.

                        Well said.

OK,me although not member, can volunteer to help the club print banners or flyers. I work in one of Sinagpore largest large format printer and we have 15 Inkjet, 2 colour lazer, and 10 solvent printers....can print sticker, paper, etc...at very very cheap rate (for the club only)

BUT layout & design, the club had to get someone or DIY themselves, me no time to help in design, if got time I would have finished building my own boat already

PM me if the club need any help.

BTW I print Stargek's (Tamiya) promotional banners and posters.

                            No offence.

I agree to a certain extent. Other than Ezzy securing a place at PP for the boaters. I would now like to pose some questions. I have supported the club a lot. I even ordered 2 x insane which cost me almost 10 grand. The mentioned of the platform etc etc has been mention since the year 2004 till now. So far there is not much progress or update.

Question Time.... Kindly refer to the post of latest area to play boat. The club has many members. Most of you should realize by now

                            1. why are there lesser and lesser members going to PP these days?

                            2. Why are more members looking to get out of PP and source for other grounds?

                            3. Has the chairman asked the members their opinion or respected their opinion with regards to any matter at all?

                            4. Does he respect other members so as to gain respect for himself?

                            5. Lets have all the members vote to see if he really deserves the pat on the back.

P.S.: Just a note, why not have a concensus or poll if he is really doing a good job? Let all the members decide. There is nothing to hide.

sirocco2288, please kindly bring your personal grudges with local boater out of this forum.

We welcome members to share and discuss information. However, inviting a flame war is the least we would want to welcome.

                              I had deleted your posting.
