The Pyro Motor, the Logo 500 and the Trex 550

    Hi,

I have done some measurements to compare the differences of Pyro 600-12 motor on a Logo 500 and a Trex 550.

    Setup:

    Motor: Kontronik Pyro 600-12
ESC: Kontronik LV 100+ (Mode 4) with heatsink
    Battery: Revo 60C 5000mAH 6S
    Main Blades: Edge 553mm
    FBL Unit: Full-size Vbar
    Headspeed: 2,200 rpm
    Gear/pinion ratio (Logo 500): 10.6, Main gear is 106T, Pinion is 10T
    Gear/pinion ratio (Trex 550): 10.6, Main gear is 170T, Pinion is 16T

    Flying style: Sport

    And the results:

    For Logo 500
    Flight time: 6 min.
    Motor temperature: 50 degree C
    ESC temperature: 32 degree C

    For Trex 550
    Flight time: 7.5 min.
    Motor temperature: 44.5 degree C
    ESC temperature: 27 degree C

I was trying to sell my Trex 550, but now I have decided to keep the Trex 550.

Any comparison to the takeoff weight of those 2 helis?

I was thinking that the logo should be lighter and more efficient but your results proved otherwise.

Guess for sport flying the difference in heli behaviour does not matter for you.
    Too many helis!

I just did a check on the weight (with battery)

      Logo 500: 3.0kg

      Trex 550: 3.2kg

My weighing scale is only one decimal place, so the difference may not be exactly 200g. But the difference should be 150s to 250g.

What did you use to measure the temperatures?

It's amazing that the ESC is hardly hot... 32 degC and 27 degC are like normal outdoor temperatures (and 27 degC is more typical of a cool, rainy/cloudy day too). Same temperature as if the ESC was just sitting there, without flight.
        ------------------------------
Airworthy: FMS Mini Trojan, Cloudsfly, BF-109 Funfighter, HK Mini Stick, Flasher 450 Pro, Mini Titan v2, E-Flite Blade MCPx.
        NIB: Multiplex FunCub, HK T-45.

There is a heatsink attached to the ESC. And the temperature was measured on the heatsink.

What's really surprising is that your getting an extra 1.5 mins
out of the Trex 550. So are we looking at a more effecient
            drive train or ?????

Were you running on a tight belt tension on your Logo 500?

The Trex 550, it's geared tail transmission right?

Yes, I think so that the issue is related to the tail drive. Trex 550 is really very smooth.
As for Logo 500 it is not smooth at all. I don't think I have a tight belt tension. In fact, it is
quite loose. I checked the Logo 600 of a fellow pilot, his Logo 600 tail drive is smoother.
And the belt tension is about the same as my Logo 500. I think the issue could be due to
part tolerance of Logo 500 (most likely the belt?). I bought two Logo 500 at about the same
time, the first one had some part tolerance problems which the second one did not have.
It appears that the factory is not controlling the part tolerance very well.

Anyway, Logo 500 is a great heli to fly.
