This year, Ronald and I have been fortunate to be presented with the opportunity to compete in the 6th Beijing DLG contest. This is my first F3K contest overseas. The contest is on 25 August and we decided to get some time to trim our gliders properly and acclimatise ourselves to the flying field by reaching a day earlier.
Thanks goodness, our gliders came through in our home made glider boxes unscathed. I was really worried as these light gliders can be really fragile.
Our practice time at the field in the morning was great. The field is a carpet grass farm. 'Nuff said. Saw some really nice gliders up close and met up with some really good flyers. These people launch to the moon. It's definitely intimidating. Luckily I came into my own when I managed to hook a few nice thermal rides back to back to restore some confidence. With only a short session in SIngapore for the past 2.5 weeks, I felt a bit rusty.
