Storage period for Lipo battery.

Dear RC friends, if I charge or discharge my Lipo battery in storage mode I would like to know how long can store away if I layoff flying for 6 months?

Think after charging to storage mode, must keep in freezer or sumtin. I know Bro Dave does it for his HUGE lipos. Can't recall exactly but for sure lipos can keep v long if stored correctly.

You're correct as what I did bro. I store High Voltage batteries up to 14S into freezer & kept for weeks even to a year if I did go on vacation. I've tested to the extreme while charging fully 6 x 7S batts with it still frosted (not defrosted), covering with cloth to prevent moisture from accumulating or causing any short-circuit. Batts kept in freezer for years will still retain sustainable power. However, u need to note the possibility of over-charging once it gets defrosted. I've tested Revolectrix 6S 5000mAH 60C Diamond, Nanotech & Zippy 5000mAH 7S onwards. Do remember to store voltage prior to placement.

Batteries that are left for long will generally deteriorate with imbalanced cells unless the IR resistance quality is good. Even while discharging & leaving it for months is not a great idea as the cells will drop below volt count & you will have to charge to a level 3.2V above workable state even sometimes using Ni-MH if charger refuse with alarm. If the latter is chosen, always disconnect once volts reach sustainable level, reverting to Lipo. Otherwise, it will heat up & cause fire in the batts. Plus do always off mains on all completion.

I had charged 6 x 7S 5000mAH 60C high powered batteries under 1C with Powerlabs connected with a 6 x Fused MPA Multi-Parallel Adaptor which I highly recommend. I had left over-night charging while I gone on to sleep as I get used to it well. Most enthusiasts do not want to do store freezing environment generally because they fear it blew up their fridge or the remembrance effect that they had connected wrongly the wires resulting fires.

I concluded should the batts not used or flown & kept for a duration, the cells would soon be weaken & imbalanced even though u had performed discharging & stored. With our sticks, the volts fluctuated so instantaneously alive. For my sport-fly Revolectrix 12S 5000mAH 60C batts, it has achieved 220 or more cycles to date with freezer store...

In addition, last but not least to mention, batteries having Sufficient Strong Volts in every cells over a extended period of time like few mths or years doesn't mean my birds able to pull strong amps out of it. It just gets weaker & weaker if batts are not taken great care, , exercised flying it & avoiding over-discharged times as well.

Repairing cells putting good pieces inside lasts for a while where the rest will get bloated sooner or later. I've ended up modifying 6S 22.2V batts to charge handphones & iPhones in place of costly over-rated portable batteries & it lasts for months...
