I am not sure the technical details but in short the dsmx is the improved version of dsm2 which is even more interference free.
The Tx and Rx are all compatible.

google is yr friend. loads of info from official n non-official sources.

on paper, its a world of difference. in reality, or least to me, no difference. Unless you operate yr model with more than 50 flyers using spektrum, dsm2 will do the job just fine. As for brownouts, can happen to either one. Just make sure you do the needful before flying. Range-Check first then ensure both main & satellite rx are lit before flying. If it blinks, reconnect again. Also check the wires for loose connection. dsm2 has been working ok for me thus far. I recall shutting off my tx when my skysurfer was in the air. Upon switching on my trusty dx7, connection was reestablished within 2s. I tried it on 5 occasions which yielded the same results. Word of caution cum disclaimer, do it at yr own risk & dun try it on a heli.
