Melted battery connector, what's the likely caused?

    Hi
Today I ran my cat on 2 2s in series with 180a Turnigy esc, 3660 3060kv 65A max. To my horror, the wires were v hot and the connector melted. Can anyone shed some light? Esc was cool, motor is touchable. Both motor n esc are water cooled n working. Wonder y my wires were that hot. Oh,i'm using min 10guage wires. Batt wires are 8guage

Thanks in advance n happy new year!

Two 2S in series means u running 4S. 4S on a 3060kv motor, I am surprised the esc or motor did not went up in flames.

What type of connector u use by the way???

I recommend at least 5.5mm gold bullets. Esp with ur kind of setup.

I would presume your using the dean connector, so no surprise it melted. Don't use it, most boater prefer the bullet connector 5.5mm.

Yeah using dean. Ok will change to bullet type. Sorry typo in my earlier thread. The batts were connected in parallel instead of series. I don't understand y it melted. Only 2s mah.....well I guess it's the connectors.
Thank you n have a good new year!
Hope to join u guys someday. I'm boating at upper pierce reservoir.

        Cheers

Deans are rated for up to 60A only. 2S setup normally draw ard 100A continuous???

Using 4mm bullet should solve ur problem. 5.5mm for 2S setup is an overkill but if u want to progress further, stick to 5.5 or 6 or even 8mm bullet connectors.

Ok thanks. Will likely change all to 6mm as I'm intending to slowly push to 6s

Oh my! Today I ran my boat with just 2s with the above setup n my battery bloated! Using Turnigy 5000 mah 40 to 50C. I thought my batt was spoiled so I ran another batt n it bloated again!
Any idea what happened? Running the batt to hard?

How big is your boat? what prop size? and did you set the low voltage cutoff?

Boat is 800mm Miss Geico, prop 42mm but pitch I don't know. I'm new to boating n learning thru mistakes. Voltage cut-off I don't know how to set as I don't have the manual for the Turnigy marine 180A. Tried looking for it in the net but fruitless. Will b ordering the Turnigy programme card soon n ordering one more 180A esc to grt hold of the manual.

How long u ran the boat???

U can get the manual from H0bbyking site itself, in the product page, there is a tab for u to d/l the manual.

3060kv is too much for this boat. stock only 1800 i believe on 4 s.

we have ran all day on stock setup 4s no issues up to 8 mins run time for 2 pack of 2 cell lipo 5000, making 4s.

we have ran 4s 5000 x 2 pack making 10000 on 2000kv motor, also ok but keep it under 6 mins. and the boat will lift and flip if not careful.

i suggest going back to stock and enjoy. problem free.

we have tried 2200kv and its too much for the boat and only recommend if you know what you are doing. all boat are run with 5mm bullets
i'm a rc sotong. And i know nuts about it.

He's running it for 2s only, most probably the voltage cutoff is not set, thats why it happen.

T180 and SK 180 are well known of their failing internal BEC or low lipo cutoff function

It is good practise to run external RX pack and not rely on internal BEC

yesterday i had issue of continous beep beep .. and my t180a will not armed
till i remove the red wire and set my lipo cut off to 'no protection' and problem was solved

Does anyone have the manual to programme the esc by Tx(gun type)
I do not have the programme card thus resort to TX manual programming.
And by rebinding the tx and rx will reset the esc?

Anyone selling your Turnigy programming card for the T180A, let me know if you intend to sell.
Cheers and thanks for all the kind advise and help that I've gotten from this thread.
