The Outrage Velocity 50N
Hey guys.
As some know, Outrage RC has released a new addition to their line of helis. The Velocity 50N is the 1st 50 produced and designed by Charley Stephens of the US. Setup i would be using as follows: JR DS8715 on cyclics Futaba GY520/JR 8900G JR 8900G on throttle Scott Gray Reactor X Redline 53 Redline Hi-flow 3D pipe RT610s/Torsion 600s KBDD dream tails The kit i received was from the 1st official pre-order by Outrage. So it came with the Limited Edition canomod canopy. That looks absolutely stunning btw. My kit actually came earlier than expected, so i guess im pretty lucky to get it before a huge part of the world did. The box is simple, yet stylish. I know most people don't care much about the packaging. But it's just nice to see effort being put into the whole look of the simple box. Everything was very well packaged, and each individual component was sealed in a "matrix". All screws came in ZipLock bags, and there were ALOT of them.

The stunning canopies!
Well, as said, the canopies from canomod were pretty darn nice.
Especially the Limited edition yellow Phantom scheme. They are really light, and the clearcoat is nicely done. My stock canopy had some minor imperfections, but nothing much.

The Head
On with the build.
Parts quality is superb. The CNC components have really good tolerances. The Black anodizing is thick yet even with a matt black finish. Everything went together perfectly, hardware provided is top notch too. I swapped out the 400mm stock flybar with a 440mm SS one. I'm using KBDD orange dream paddles. A hint: From now on, expect to see lots of orange, and lots of gold. Just my style ![]()

The Tailcase Assembly
I decided to skip a few pages in the manual, and started with the tailcase.
Really solid tailcase i must say. The TT bevel gears have really tigh tolerances. The tail grips are actually smaller than the other 50s, i guess to keep the weight down. Nice and compact. But being all itchy, i decided to swap them out with Gforce Weighted tail grips that i had. You have to use a Trex600n tail hub when using these grips. I milled down the tail grip arms 1.6mm as they were too long. The rest was pretty bolt on straightforward. Looks HOT! I like shiny things. ![]()

The Main Frames
The Main frames are milled from 1.6mm CF sheets.
Quality of the CF is really nice, and uniform. The triple bearing blocks are nicely made, and lined up perfectly in the frames. The Landing Gear mounts are sexy, nice that they left those SILVER. Why did i skip the assembly of the frames and went on to the tail case in the above post? Lets just say, i needed to buy some Gold. ![]()

The Clutch Stack
The clutch bell and shoe are BIG.
Definitely bigger than the Rexes and the Raptors. Heavy duty stuff. The bell is nicely machined, with vent holes and dimples for the governor magnets. The plastic fan is moulded with hi-flow fins for cooling. Ensure that you clean out the threaded area where the pinion will screw into. Use locktite! The starter coupling is pretty slick looking too.

Main Drive Gear Assy
These gears are CHUNKY.
Definitely bigger modules as compared to the other 50s ive seen. These should give you lots of BITE. The One-way hub is nicely machined too.

Putting the frames together
The control bellcranks/levers are, along with everything else, finished perfectly.
Some pre-production kits had issues with unthreaded holes etc. I had no such problem. The ball links provided are real sweet. They use a 2mm cap bolt which countersunks into the ball. The Landing gear is thick and stout, i inverted it to give it a better stance. As with all my helis, i added a header tank, just feel more comfortable with one. Thats a RJX header tank assy btw. Stand off is an extra from the velocity spare parts bag provided. And lots of gold washers, LOTS.

Boom and stuff
The Torque Tube assy is well built.
The front plastic boom mount is robust. 4 bolts sandwich the boom case even before mounting into the frame. How's that for "solid-ness" The boom itself, similar to the 550, is thicker than what you can normally find on other helis. Trust me, smack you with this boom, and you'll be seeing stars. ![]() The tail bellcrank support is attached to the boom case. Normally you have 2 locknuts here. Nice touch, simple to replace too. Quality of plastic on the 50 is quite an improvement as compared to the previous Outrage models.

Just a note
For those who intend to get the Velocity, here's a highlight from 1st batch orders.
After mounting everything, you will realise that there is some vertical play between the main shaft collar and top bearing block. This is due to the milled flat surface that is on the main shaft not being long enough. The flat is present to allow the main shaft collar to bite on the shaft. Simple remedy that i did, take a spare engine washer, it's ID is 9.5mm. I used a lathe to enlarge that to 10mm. A dremel grinder would do fine too. Place the washer between the collar and top bearing, Voila! Problem solved! Don't worry, from what i know, all future kits by Outrage will include a Clamp style collar to bypass this issue. Pretty slick.
