The JW core team bug bit me..... (Extra .10 Build Thread)
how come nowadays ppl say got lesser time but start building kit..... December season?
eh.. for me.. the bug bit me... so itchy hand want to get one to slowly build on days when I am alone at home... but just coincidence that this 2 weeks wife OT on Saturdays.. so I home alone
Sigh.....finally see someone onto this size of scale plane....have one looooooooooooooooooong ago......80% build up then ......give up nitro....end up behind my TV RIP.....this is what it looks like now.....5yrs cover with.....layer of dust
If anyone haven't notice.. the 100cc fuel tank I put in is too long....
So had to get a shorter one... The plan says get 80cc... I remember wrongly as 100cc... so when I went down to buy.. I saw the 80cc and the 120cc.. I pick the 120cc since the length is the same....
And it ended up, the new 120cc is too wide to fit. Lucky got dermel tool... enlarge the tank area in 10 minutes...
You are doing well. These kits build pretty quickly. I have a suggestion - don't glue the balsa blocks to the fin and tail yet. Also, don't glue the tail and fin into place yet. Glue the block pieces together first. Then tack glue (with fin and tail in place) so that you can transfer the shape of the bulkhead to the block using a ballpen. Then remove and carve and sand to shape first. When ready, then glue into place. You will need to use grease proof paper on the fin and tail so that the blocks won't end up being glued to them. When dry, remove the tail and fin and do your final sanding to blend the blocks to the fuselage.
This way, you can sand the blocks without having the fin and tail in the way - very troublesome and you may end up with gouges on the fin or tail which will weaken them. Also, with the fin and tail out of the way, blending to the fuselage is muct easier. Finally, its much easier to cover the tail and fin first then glue it into place then to do the covering when the fin and tail are already glued onto the fuselage. Just make sure that you remove the covering (on the fin and tail) to allow a good balsa to balsa glue joint. Do not glue the covering to the balsa. It'll will sheer off when you least expect it.
Here is the completely sanded vertical stab and the rudder. All the edges done up. Alignment is slightly out because I using scotch tape to hold it for the photo taking...
Time taken was about 30 minutes to sand it to shape.
The top of the turtle deck needs to be rounded. Perhaps, you plan to do that next. You will find that you will need to sand the tail blocks to meet the fin. At the moment, it is a square edge where the fin meets the tail. If you have already glued it to the fin, the alternative is to use a length of insulation tape, stuck on the fin just at the edge. This will help to protect the fin from your sandpaper whilst you sand the block to meet the fin. Hope this is helps.
