$299 sounds like a good price.. But what's lacking in it compared to the $600 model??

Let me give you guys my take on Garmin and Mapking. I have used both before so you might or might not agree with me.
1. I find that Garmin warm and cold start is a little faster than my current GM4320. Maybe it's because 4320 has 32 channels MTK chipset where as my older Nuvi 200 (I think only 16 channels).
2. You need to sign up with malsingmaps forum and have at least 2 contribution in for every download in order to get the security key.
3. You need to download the update maps to your PC and addin the ID key. After that you need to convert the maps to IMG file to be upload to the GPS.
4. Mapking updates for now it's free (2 years only) and you can upload from malsing or go to Eastgear.
5. On the software side, Malsing maps are much more updated. More forum people help to contribute to the development of the maps.
6. Searching for places using Mapking can be done by postal code. I heard Garmin can do it but not that extensive.
7. Mapking give the outline of the building, whereas Garmin just a small icon.
8. Name or spelling search, Garmin is much better as it give you a closes fit of any mispelled. Mapking you need to know how the software spells it.
9. Malsing is more localize. Places like eatery, FC, AT , etc are more uptodate.
10. Malsing can save your track and upload as part of your contribution if the road is not on the map. Mapking you need to bring the GPS to Eastgear for them to access it to upload.
11. Mapking have text instruction that you can read but their road display is a bit big. So when you are at flyover intersection, it can be confusing as to which road you suppose to take.
12. Last one, I was driving in Shenton way, my 4320 got confuse and show me that I was driving inside the building. Haha, I think the tall building confuse the satelite.
Other than that, I like the idea of be able to search via postal code.

I saw the papers (think it was Friday's) and all the brands were advertising. Tibo had one for something like $349 or $399, which was quite surprising cos I always thought their systems are usually around $799 at least..
Anyway, same problem again. Too many brands/models and choices, dunno which one to choose leow :P

Hi guys,
really appreciate with all the comments, reviews, ideas about getting a GPS. I ended up purchasing Marbella ONYX. They claim I can update the maps quarterly of the year from their website and have support all they way from KL, JB, and Singapore. and they claim to allow LOANs of Oversea Maps for FREE with a refundable deposit. The unit and software itselfs, looks solid and friendly enough for my mom and dad to use. 24 hours of hotline support. 1-1 exchange.. well, I am sold to it on the last day with 4 units left....------------------------------------

sorry, $299 is old news!Originally posted by simonwoo View PostThanks bro. I missed out on the Sitex show. I saw the papers but didn't see any model going for $299. Any idea what is the exact model and if it's perhaps still possible to get it at this price at Sim Lim Square?
Thanks!
called Perfect Watch at Sim Lim 6339 8638, Nuvii 205 now cost $320 with pre loaded maps.
hope this helps.
