Extremeflightrc Extra 300 58 inch Build

The mailman paid me a visit today! My order has arrived!

This is my latest love, most likely to keep me working next few nights to get her ready for maiden by weekend

    Spec:
    Extra 300
    58 inch
Torque motor most likely running 15x8 APC (anyone knows where to buy xoar?)
    Airboss 80 amp esc
    Hyperion 3700 5s

not decided on servos yet, most likely Hitec digitals

    What is cool so far:
    - Carbon Fiber landing gears
    - Smoked canopy (no need to mess with spraying, PFW folks will know my obsession)
    - Magnets for canopy installed PLUS a hatch system, very safe!
    - Pilot and panel details included!
    - WING BAG included, how nice!

    Not so cool:
    - As usual, some of the coverings not that fantastic, even peeling off, not cut evenly etc
    - Manual images too dark, though you can download from the net, you dun usually sit in front of your PC to build your plane, I used a laptop and that's how I have CA marks on the keypad.

    Here's some pictures to share

Stop looking for a gyro in my plane, they are all in the head.

Put on the landing gear, noticed the nice cover that gives the plane a nice touch. Started the build by installing the included fiberglass horns on the ailerons, preslot, no need to screw or mess with alignment, just cut the area needed and glue it in

Very nice Edmund. Was wondering if anyone here would get it.

The low part count will make for a very speedy build I reckon.

Have fun with the build and I'm hoping to see more pics.

          Cheers

And anyways, I don't think we can get XOAR for electrics locally... yet (hint to our favourite vendors out there). But I think the JXT (or something) props or something from Jet will be a good alternative. I'm trying them on my KMD, I'll let you know if I notice any marked difference in performance as compared to APC props (besides the major likelihood of drawing lower amps). There are also Master Airscrew wooden props for electrics at N.T.C.

            Cheers

              Thanks guys,

I am actually hoping to maiden this weekend. Most likely in the evenings, will update on Friday night keke once the building is concluded.

              Randomtask,

It is extremely low part count. If you have all the required items on hand, should be doable with 1 night. I found that I have to get rubberised CA or silicon, dubro horns and whatnots to complete the bugger.

I am intending to use Xoar props if it is available locally, if not, I guess I will stick with APC. Keep me posted about your prop test.

                  Extra 300

Edmond, overall, the plane that I got was quite impressive, all the covering was neatly done...I'm planning to use the Hyperion Z4020-B14, CC80 for esc and 5s 3300/3700.
I'll be using 225MG for the aileron, 5245MG for elevator and 5475 for the rudder. Will take my time on this one.....probably maiden in 2 weeks time

Hello Edmond, congrats on your new plane. I am excited for you with your new love hahaha!

I just booked my return ticket back on 27 April so will take a drive to PFW one of the weekends to check your big plane zooming around in da friendly skies...

I emailed them on anti roll pins and let's see what they say. I hope they can do something about it though.

You are using the exact same servo setup as me lol, my is by chance though, went Rotor today and they have only 1 5245 left lol.

                        hey Bull Terrier,
when you come back, you should be able to see 2 biggy electrics zooming about in PFW lol. Welcome back in advance

Anyhow, I resume building today after procrastinating for a while after a late dinner. Decided to fit the servos in and I must say the whole design is very well thought out. If you follow the manual (I believe Chris Hinson's own words literally lol), they will save you a lot of time.

Check out the pictures. They borrowed the idea from heli and used ball links to join the control horns. I am sure this has been done before but they are definitely not that common on smaller size plane. So pretty much, just cut the servo slot, the HS225MG fitted right in (I really hate filing them out on previous planes on recommended servos and they dun fit). I bought the recommended Dubro horns and they worked like a treat, the ball links screw goes right in to the fiberglass horns and Dubro horns, no need to mess with enlarging the hole and whatnots

Next I started on the wheels, take a look at the axle, it is a proper axle that separates the wheel rotation from the part that secures to the landing gear, that is a nice touch. I glued the plywood to the wheel pants (fiberglass) and will need to cut out the slot to wedge it between the axle and landing gear, again I must say the axle design separates the wheel rotation and mounting to the landing gear, this not only makes it easier to work with and tighten properly, the wheel itself will not need to run on threads and the wheel pants does not need a separate screws to mount, both will last a lot longer when they are mounted more securely. This design gives you that and provide a smoother running wheels too.

                          Hey Edmond,

Though I don't have this plane, I have followed other big plane threads on RCG, and this one is just as interesting. Just my observation from RCG to share. Some guys added washers on the screws on top of the ball link. In the unlikely incident that the plastic part were to come loose from the ball link (touch wood), the washer MAY help keep the control rod to the control surface.

                          Cheers

Hey Randomtask, I was thinking about that possibility but did not dwell long enough on a solution, your idea is perfect lol. I dun want them to pop in the air lol.
