I can't remember how many years ago when I first built and flown my very first Deceiver Pylon racer, which uses a cheap Speed 400 motor. Since then, I've built at least another 3-4 models in years to come after I broke up the first in flight.
A few years ago, I bought a 130 brushless 3550 Kv inrunner motor for my Wemotec Microfan unit, but was never used. So I thought of using it for my old Deceiver design. After trying a few combinations, I settled on 2S 800mah Lipo, Hobbywing 18amp ESC and APC 4.75x4.75 prop, which draws about 14amps, which is pretty close to the max continous limits of both the motor and battery.
Nevertheless, I set my timer to 3 minutes, faced it into the wind and give a good chuck in the air. All I need is 2 clicks of right trim and the plane is flying on rails. After the 3 minutes flight, the pack is quite warm and the motor is sizzling hot, as usual for inrunners. I feel that bigger 2S pack like 1000mah will have more current draw threshold, and this plane is quite a floater anyway.
Compared to my previous racers, this on is a pussy cat to fly. Not very fast and very light and nimble. A good sport racer.
