    Repair Workshop: Mustang P51D Epp

Here are some pics of a EPP Mustang P51D repairing for a bro!

Damage not too serious, however, seems most planes such as GWS or other brands breaks at the weakest section between the nose and the wing mounting area.

Epp foam is easy to repair, provided you still have all the crashed pieces with you. Just put them together with PVA glue, use masking tape join them in place. Make sure you give it a pull to tighten joining pcs together.

Still plenty of time to aligh the pcs as it dries very slowly (~2hrs to dry up outer surface, >5hrs to fully dry internally) For me, I put it under the sun near the window to speed things up

Upon taping all the pcs together, use clamps to apply light forces ensures joining surfaces adhere fully.

If you use epoxy, well, may be heavier but much stronger then the EPP foam itself which is not necessary except for selected areas such as motor mounts.
For me, I usually use PVA for the whole plane.
The PVA glue also dissolves in water when in liquid form, you can safely use your fingers to run them over gabs etc.....

Some folks dilute PVA in water, then use it to coat their normal foam plane.
this way, forms a shield on foam surface, so you can safely use cheap spray paints to decorate your plane.!

    Happy building or repairing.

Should you have any questions, drop in a line or check with many expert folks here for guidance (i.e. Joe Yao, Loyn, etc...)

Using Selley's AQUAHERE PVA wood glue.
Cheap and good! U can get it from any NTUC or hardware shop for S$5.60.

Most Junior Flying Club(now Youth Flying Club) folks uses this since many years back.

          Hi John,
Hopefully this is not one of the new P51D that you are getting?

I just got the glue last nite, wanted to fix the stick mount on my estarter as it had a heavy nose landing which pushed the stick mount up abit. The gap quite small so thot the more watery PVA glue might be easier to work with.

However I think it really takes forever to cure haha. I tested on a piece of foam last nite after 6 hours, I can still pull them apart rather easily

Think I might heat up some epoxy to make them abit more watery and attempt to pour into the gap instead

              Hi mh3400,
opps sorry I forgot to mention, the two bottles , one empty, one full.
You do not need to mix anything, just apply straight from the bottle

              BTW MSC,
this epp mustang is not the one we bought. Since most our usual flying folks also want to buy this, I collected them together for them....keke...
Haven't flown a P51D, so use the epp version to try first.....get the hang of it.

                hi kenshinz,
I agree with you this glue takes donkey years to dry if applied too much internal..that's why I put the whole plane near the windows to dry under the sun. but when it dried, its really flexible like the foam and easy to cut.

I usually apply the inner surface first, let it dry, then outer layer to dry overnight if time and patience permits.

Otherwise, use epoxy will be much faster.
                Cheers!

John, maybe can form a scale squadron with actual aircraft tail number and DH nick of the pilot on fuselage just below the canopy, just like the real aircraft.
